• Hi! I'm a 1st yr student of B.Sc.I.T. from a reputed university in Mumbai. Due to my lack of interest in Pure science subjects, I din't wanted to do Engg. or Medical, so my father gave me advice to do B.Sc.I.T. first and then appear for Civil services exams, but i think i dont have any interest in Civil Services, I want to do an M.B.A. also..but he tells that Corporate sector is not good. So I'm very confused, please guide me.

Hi! After you complete your BSc (IT), you can also go for an IT job for a few years rather than jumping into an MBA or the IAS, right away. As far as comparing these two options is concerned, what your father possibly refers to is the cut-throat competition and associated unethical behaviour prevalent in the corporate sector.

In today’s world, due to the degradation of the ethical fibre of the society at large, there is no career option, which is free from these evils. In the government sector also, you have to deal with issues like corruption, seniority based promotions (rather than merit-based) etc.

Hence I advise you not to be bogged down about life’s challenges which you’ll have to face irrespective of your career choice. Go with the career option, which your heart beckons. However, be well aware of the circumstances you are likely to confront in your career and take a well-informed decision.

    ll the best!
