CA-CPTAbout CA CPT: The Chartered accountancy CA program is of two years duration. It comprises three main stages –Foundation, Intermediate and Final. To clear each one of them, a student has to take the following exams - Common Proficiency Test (CPT), Integrated Professional Competence Course (IPCC) and the Professional Competency Examination also called as the Final examination. CPT is the entry level test for Chartered Accountancy course. It is held twice every year, normally in the months of June and December.

CA CPT Eligibility Criteria
:

Only those students who are already registered with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India for the said course and fulfill the requisite eligibility conditions have the option to apply CA CPT Exam. The required eligibility criteria are:

  • Candidate who has passed Std. X examination or equivalent can join CPT after registration with the Board of Studies & can appear after appearing for Std. XII.
  • Candidates, who have passed B.Com, M.Com, LLB, ICWA, CS or MBA at the first attempt, are also eligible to apply.
  • Those candidates, who have appeared or are appearing in final year of the qualifying examination, are also eligible to apply.
  • A student who has got himself registered for Common Proficiency Test on or before April 1st and October 1st for appearing in CPT examination which is held in June and December respectively every year.

CA CPT Examination Pattern:

 

First Session
(i.e. Morning Session)

  • CPT is divided into two sessions of two hours each.  In the first session there are two sections: Section A – Fundamentals of Accounting carrying 60 marks and Section B – Mercantile laws carrying 40 marks.  In the second session there are two sections: Section C – General Economics carrying 50 marks and Section D – Quantitative Aptitude also carrying 50 marks.
  • A minimum of 50 percent marks in aggregate is required for a candidate in order to be declared as pass in CPT exam. It is to be noted that there is no requirement of securing minimum marks in any subject/section in CPT, but appearance in both sessions of CPT is mandatory.
  • For each correct answer, the students will be awarded 1 mark and for each wrong answer students lose 0.25 mark.

 

CA CPT How to apply

  • Prospective candidates can register with the Board of Studies on submission of the prescribed filled in form. Students can also download the application form online from the official website.
  • A student has to follow the examination notification to be issued by the Examination Department of the ICAI and apply in the prescribed form along with the examination fee of Rs.300. Examination Department will announce the examination centers and issue admission card.
  • Applications for admission to Common Proficiency Test is required to be made in the relevant prescribed form as contained in the Information Brochure, which may be obtained from the Additional Secretary (Examinations), The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, ICAI Bhawan, Indraprastha Marg, New Delhi – 110 002 on payment of Rs. 1000/- (Rs.500/- towards examination fee and Rs. 500/- towards cost of application form and Information brochure) per application form.
  • The fee for candidates opting for Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Doha and Bahrain centres will be US $160 (US $ 150 towards examination fee and US $ 10 towards cost of application form and information brochure) or its equivalent Indian Currency.
  • The fee for the candidates opting for Kathmandu centre are required to remit INR.1350/-(INR 850/- towards examination fee and INR 500/- towards the cost of application form and information brochure) or its equivalent foreign Currency. Since the cost of Information brochure containing Common Proficiency Test application form includes the examination fee, no separate fee is required to be remitted at the time of submitting the filled in application form.
  • The Information brochure containing Common Proficiency Test application form will also be available in the Regional and Branch Offices of the Institute and can be obtained there from on cash payment on or from 7th October, 2013.
  • CA CPT Course Registration Fee: The registration and course fee for CA CPT Course is INR 6000 which is to be deposited at the time of submitting the filled in application form for registration. The registration for CA CPT course will be valid for a period of 3 years from the date the student becomes eligible to appear in CA CPT exam for the first time or for the period so long the student continues to appear in the examination regularly whichever is later.

 

CA CPT Exam Important Dates (tentative) and Information:

  • CA CPT Exam is held twice a year – June & December.
  • A student who has got himself registered for Common Proficiency Test on or before April 1st and October 1st for appearing in CPT examination which is held in June and December respectively every year.
  • Besides 147 locations across India, CA CPT Exam is also held in 5 locations outside India. Candidates from these locations should read the CA CPT How to apply given above for detailed information the application procedure.
  • Common Proficiency Test will be an objective type multiple choice questions based examination. Candidates will be allowed to opt for Hindi medium Question Paper Booklet for answering the questions. Detailed information will be found given in the Information brochure.
