Q. What kind of degree can I get if I pursue my PG in pharmacy in Australia (MS or M.Pharm or MSc)?
A. From 2008, entry into the M.Pharm programme is open to International students who have completed an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences, Health Sciences, and Science with a major in physiology, pharmacology or biotechnology, or an Applied Science degree with a major in Medical Laboratory Science. This also gives an opportunity for science graduates from a variety of life/biological sciences to enter this profession.
Moreover, Pharmacists from overseas have to pass the APEC exam and training process to qualify for registration as pharmacists in Australia. M.Pharm is offered at the Griffith University - School of Pharmacy, Murdoch University - School of Pharmacy, University of Canberra, University of Newcastle - School of Biomedical Sciences, University of Sydney - Faculty of Pharmacy and the University of Western Australia. Make sure the School and its M.Pharm Programme are accredited by the Australian Pharmacy Council (APC). M (Clin) Pharm is offered by the University of Tasmania for those who wish to develop clinical (pharmacy/pharmacology) and therapeutics skills.
Q. Please guide me for a better career after BAMS, except MD/Hospital Administration /Healthcare Management.
A. The demand for trained and qualified medical professionals with a BAMS/BPT has grown exponentially in spas and wellness centres. But to make the best use of this opportunity you may consider doing a course in international spa therapies from any of the academies offering CIBTAC or ITEC certifications in India. Moving further, it will also make sense to pursue a course in SPA Management wherein you will learn the managerial and administrative aspects of spas and wellness centers. One such institute offering CIBTAC & ITEC qualifications is the Ananda Spa Institute in Hyderabad, which is part of the internationally renowned spa Ananda in the Himalayas. You can check out their various course offerings on www.anandaspainstitute.com (E-mail: ajaym@anandaspainstitute.com). The next batch for the 5-month ASI Holistic Diploma starts end-August.
Q. I will be completing my B.Pharm this year. Since I don’t want to go into research, could you suggest some further course that will allow me to remain in the industry, preferably at a professional level higher than that of a medical sales rep?

A. With over 20,000 units, the pharmaceutical industry has emerged as one of the biggest employers in the country. You can focus on the wider field of pharmaceutical management, marketing, wholesale and drug store management, finance, operations, quality assurance, R&D management, drug laws or IPR -depending on which one you find interesting. Even mainstream retail chains like Pantaloon and 24/7 are zeroing in on pharma retail in their outlets. Hence an MBA (Pharma) would be an ideal choice.
