IF consistency is a virtue, IMT, Ghaziabad must get a medal for the same. It has always been a top school, ranked between 10-20 for the last 10 years across surveys. It takes an approximate drive time of 90-120 minutes from South Delhi. Location is a disadvantage, concurs a faculty member. It skews gender ratio attracting more male students as opposed to females, he says
However, a host of other factors seem to make IMT, Ghaziabad a top choice for MBA aspirants. Brand image, return on investment, placements, campus, student exchange programmes and infrastructure seem to be top reasons why students chose IMT. “I chose IMT over IIM Shillong for these reasons,” says one student.
Last year the institute’s students clocked an average annual salary of Rs. 7.5 to 8 lakhs, which has increased to Rs. 9 lakhs this year. Since the introduction of an online application system, the number of applications has shot up. “For a total of 420 seats the applications are expected to cross 25,000 this year,” says director, Dr. Anwar Ali. The PGDM programme has 180 seats, whereas finance, International Business, HR and IT have 120, 60 and 30 seats each, respectively. The institute is also in the process of revising its pedagogy.
The Academic Advisory Council comprising ex-IIM directors such as Professor Pritam Singh, Professor Ishwar Dayal and others, in addition to industry stalwarts, is due to deliberate on the method of teaching and course curriculum, we are told. “Environment-related courses will become compulsory,” says Dr. Ali. In the course curriculum, the college plans to lay more emphasis on areas such as corporate governance, business ethics and risk assessment in the back of global meltdown among others, Dr. Ali adds.
The residential campus can house 900 students, says Dr. Sanjay Singh, Associate Professor, HRM, Chairperson, Student Affairs, as we tour the hostel area. International student exchange programme is one of the key highlights of the college The school has an active foreign relations cell. It was recently awarded six fellowships to send faculty and students to EU.
Dr. Vimi Jham, Associate Professor and marketing, Chairperson tells us that IMT alumni guide students as mentors for two years. They are also invited regularly to spend a day in campus interacting with students, she further informs us. To get a feel of the industry, the students undertake their short-term project assignments under industry experts.
The faculty has a four-course load a year. Published research papers carry cash reward and additional credit points, says Dr Rajiv R Thakur, Professor Internation Business and Strategy, Chairperson PGDM Programmes.
