If you want to join as an officer in BSF, CRPF or the ITBP, Central Police Forces Examination (Asst. Commandants) is the right one for you. The CPF Exam is followed by a Physical Standards/Efficiency Test & Medical Standards Test conducted by the Ministry of Home Affairs. Finally, the Interview/Personality Test is conducted by the UPSC for the shortlisted candidates.
Eligibility:
The minimum educational qualification is a Bachelor's degree from a recognised university or equivalent. The prescribed Physical or Medical Standards have to be met by the candidates. Those with NCC 'B' or 'C' certificates are given consideration at the time of interview/ personality test (see table).

Fees: Examination fee of Rs. 100 is payable through a recruitment fee stamp. No fee for SC & ST candidates.
About the Exam:
The written exam comprises two papers of 2 hours duration.
Paper - I on General Ability (GA) and Intelligence consists of objective questions with multiple answers.
- This paper set both in Hindi and English carries 250 marks.
- The syllabi of GA covers areas such as General Mental Ability, General Science, Current Events of National and International importance, Indian Polity and Economy, History of India and Geography - both India and World.
Paper-II on essay, precise writing and comprehension.
- It carries 150 marks wherein the candidates can opt to write Essay in both Hindi and English.
- There is a minimum qualifying mark in each paper as is fixed by the UPSC.
- It assesses a candidate's ability to pen down his/ her ideas on a given topic thus evaluating coherence, preciseness, grammatically correct expressions, right spelling and lucid writing skills.
- Candidates are also tested in precise writing and also reading comprehension to answer short questions based on their understanding of the language
Selection process:
- Only the candidates who qualify the Physical Efficiency Test are shortlisted for interviews.
- Candidates, both male and females, are tested in 100 metre flat race, 800 metres race, long & high jump and shot-put and are required to surpass a bench-mark set by the Nodal Authority, appointed by the Home Ministry.
