EVER wondered how the Indian Railways is able to operate more than 9000 trains carrying over 150 lakh passengers per day? Well, the crux of it lies in the efficiency of loco pilots recruited by the RRBs. The written examination is conducted by the respective RRBs, is followed by an aptitude test and finally the shortlisted candidates in the merit list are called for verification of the original documents.
Eligibility: The minimum educational qualification is matriculation or its equivalent under 10+2 system, and course completed in Apprentice or I.T.I. in any of the specific trades recognised by SCVT/ NCVT.

Fees: Rs. 40 payable through a single Central Recruitment Fee Stamp. Fee is exempted for all women candidates, SC/ ST/ Ex-Servicemen/ minority candidates. Those who submit a proof of their family income being less than Rs 50,000 per annum are also exempted.
About the Exam
Candidates are given question booklet in English, Hindi, Urdu & regional language of RRBs concerned, which they can opt for as medium of examination. The syllabus is generally in conformity with the educational standards and/or technical qualifications prescribed for the posts.
The 120 questions are of objective type with multiple choice answers and include questions from GK, General English/Hindi, General Arithmetic, Analytical/Quantitative Skills and from those subjects covered as part of minimum qualifications for the post.
Exam duration: 90 minutes. There is negative marking wherein 1/3 of allotted marks for each question is deducted for each wrong answer.
Results: Based on the results, candidates equal to the number of vacancies are called for document verification. In addition 30% extra candidates are also called as standby in case there is a shortfall in empanelment from the main list. Appointment is subject to their passing the requisite Medical Fitness Test
