  • Highlights of Youth Fellowship (Group fellowship):

    • Funded by Sir Ratan Tata Trust, it is PUKAR’s flagship project, which is based on the concept of democratising research and to use it as a tool for alternative pedagogy, advocacy, intervention and transformation.

    • The group of 10 to 12 twelve people, conducts participatory research in their own locality on a subject of their own choice. They explore many aspects of their own lives, families, neighbourhoods and produce new knowledge about the city, which is anchored in their own living experience.

    Duration: One year

    Group composition: Minimum of 10 members and a maximum of 15 members.

    Age: 18 to 30 years

    Note: No formal academic background required.


    Selection process:

    • The application should be collectively filled out by all members of the group.

    • The groups are short-listed on the basis of diversity of the youth groups.

    • The emphasis is on participatory attitude and ability to sustain group.

    • The group will be evaluated on the basis of a well written meaningful project proposal.

    Highlights of Advance Research Youth Fellowship:

    • Aims at those who would like to learn more methods of research, probe deeper questions and are willing to read, write, document (audio-video) and use the internet as a new resource for research and action.

    • First term (July to October) will focus on new research questions and learning new and deeper methodology, second term (November to February) will aim at data collection and documentation and the third term will focus on analysis, writing and uploading the data on the internet.

    • Research Fellows are expected to produce essays and multimedia projects at the end of the programme which will be reviewed by colleagues and peers involved in urban research.

    Duration: 1 year

    Selection process: The applicants must be barefoot researchers who have graduated from the PUKAR Youth Fellowship after one or more years of training and feel the need to do more intensive research on the same or similar themes they explored during the period of the fellowship.

    How to apply: Application forms will be distributed online as well as in events during the youth fellowship project.
