    THE College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram was established in 1939 and is one of the oldest engineering colleges in India. Model Engineering College was established in 1989 by the IHRD as a self-financing college with a fair degree of autonomy to provide a higher quality of education. Today, 107 colleges are functional in Kerala.  The district of Thiruvanathapuram has the largest student intake of 5,363 across 19 engineering institutes .

    Majority of the student intake (approximately 71%) is in four disciplines:  Electronics & Communications (25%); Computer Science (21%); Electrical & Electronics Engineering (14%) and Mechanical Engineering with 3,681 seats and 12% of the total engineering intake in the state is through Common Entrance Examination in Kerala.

    Three more disciplines also have a fair share takers: Civil Engineering (3,042); Information Technology (2,955); and Applied Electronics & Instrumentation  (1,080 seats).

    The College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram, TKM College of Engineering, Kollam, MES College of Engineering, Kuttipuram and Government Engineering College, Thrissur have more than 500 seats each. More than 300 seats each at the UG level, belong to 53 colleges.  There are only 180 seats for Biomedical Engineering in the state that are offered at Model Engineering College, Ernakulam; Sahridaya College of Engineering & Technology, Thrissur and TKM Institute of Technology at Kollam.  Also if one wishes to pursue a course in Aeronautical Engineering, the only place is  Jawaharlal College of Engineering & Technology, Palakkad with 60 seats.

    Admission procedure

    • Take the CEE, which makes you eligible for 31,077 seats across 106 different engineering colleges in the state.
    • Take the AIEEE for admission to the prestigious National Institute of Technology, Calicut ( 836 UG seats).

    Eligibility criteria
    You must have completed 10+2 through Higher Secondary Examination, Kerala or its equivalent with 50% marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry/Biotechnology/Computer Science/Biology put together and 50% marks in Mathematics separately. Candidates with a 3-year diploma in engineering awarded by the Board of Technical Examinations, Kerala or its equivalent with 50% marks in the final diploma exam, are also eligible except for engineering courses offered by Kerala Agricultural University.
