NIT, Srinagar (558 seats), previously known as Regional Engineering College, was set up during the first Five Year Plan. MBS College, Jammu has maximum intake accounting for 36% of the total seats in the State.
Admission is through CET for which eligibility is a minimum score of 50% aggregate in general category and 40% for reserved, in 10+2 exam. Candidates must be permanent residents of J&K. Govt colleges allocate 50% of seats on the basis of open merit while the rest 50% are reserved for SC/ST/residents of backward area/adjoining actual line of control and sports persons
