PEC University of Technology, Chandigarh was originally established as Mugalpura Engineering College at Lahore (now Pakistan) in 1921. In 1953, the college was relocated to Chandigarh. In 2003, it became a deemed university and got renamed as PEC University of Technology. Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Rupnagar with an intake of 120 has also started functioning from a temporary campus at IIT, Delhi. The NIT at Jalandhar has a total intake of 694.
Majority of the student intake (approximately 82%) is in four disciplines: Electronics & Communications (7249); Computer Science (7229); Mechanical (5014) & Information Technology (3460). Electrical Engineering (1670), Electrical & Electronics (590), and Civil Engineering (880) have a fair intake. Chemical Engineering has 205 seats and Architecture has 460 seats. Lovely Professional University, Phagwara has a huge number of seats (960) available for admission through the AIEEE.
Admission procedure
- CET Common Entrance Test conducted by Punjab Technical University gives access to approximately 76% of the seats in the region.
- The AIEEE makes you eligible for seats in Chandigarh, which are affiliated to Panjab University.
For admission to the Engineering/Architecture Courses, 85% seats are open to candidates from within the State and 15% are open to candidates from outside the State. Candidates need to appear in the Combined Entrance Test conducted by Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar.
a) For Engineering & Technology Courses: all those candidates who have passed the 10+2 examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one the following subjects: Chemistry, Biotechnology, Computer Science and Biology.
b) For Architecture Course (candidates seeking admission to B Arch are not required to take CET – 2010): A candidate should have passed or appeared in 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognised Board with Mathematics as a subject of study and securing 50% marks in aggregate.
