JABALPUR Engineering College, the first engineering institution in MP, was established in 1947. SGS Institute of Technology & Science, Indore, established in 1952 was also amongst the first few in the State. Recent addition is IIT Indore, established in 2009. In the last decade, the number of colleges has grown to 204 in the State. These colleges are concentrated in 25 districts out of 48, and Bhopal district leads with a staggering number of 82 colleges.
Some institutes stand out such as the RKDF Institute of Science & Technology, Bhopal, with maximum intake capacity of 825, other institutes like Oriental Institute of Science & Technology, Bhopal and Truba College of Engineering & Information Technology also has sizable intake with 720 and 660 seats respectively.
Majority of the student intake (79%) is in four disciplines: Computer Science (24%), Electronics & Communication (23), Information technology (17%) and Mechanical (13%).
Admission procedure
The process is governed by Professional Examination Board, which prescribes candidates seeking admission in Engineering Colleges to be a bona fide resident of Madhya Pradesh and must have passed either of the two mentioned (a) HSC (10+2) from MP Board/other recognised board or (b) Diploma in Engineering or Architecture by Rajiv Gandhi Technological University or any other recognised university.
PET is an objective paper with three sections, i.e., Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry of 300 marks each. There is a provision of reservation in Autonomous, Government Aided Colleges for SC, ST & OBC of 16, 20 & 14% respectively.
