THE Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad is one of the oldest institutions in the country, established in 1926. Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi and ISM, Dhanbad consistently figure in the best engineering colleges in India. National Institute of Foundry & Forge Technology offers students UG degrees in Metallurgy & Mfg.

The top disciplines, Computer Science, Electronics & Communications, Mechanical, Electrical & Electronics and Civil account for 70% of the seats.  Three other disciplines have a fair share of intake: Production (166), Metallurgy and Material Science (164), and Electrical (159). Admission procedure
Students can gain admission to Engineering Colleges in Jharkhand either through State CET (JCECE) conducted by Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Exam Board or AIEEE. One needs to appear in AIEEE for  530 seats in NIT; 495 seats in BIT Mesra, and 139 seats in NIFFT, Ranchi.

For the CET,  the candidates must have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognized board with the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English. There is no age limit for the candidates.
