  • tejaswi | Jul 12, 2010

  • why is karunya institute of technology on the list???????
  • IndianNational | Jul 11, 2010

  • @trueindian:oh yeah?for sure no one outside madurai knows abt your institution.but every iit's nits are dream place for every engineering aspirant.don't compare them wit any local college.and you call ur college premier prestigious insti? Really sorry i'm an iitr student wit gr8 interest in these rankings,i'v never come across such a name in any college rankings.and thnx for yur kind advice, but take a look at outlook dataquest, india today rankings.yu say this is a gr8 ranking bcoz it has rated yur 'insti' as aaa+ but given a not so gr8 aaa to nit t, which is way far ahead of all state universities, private colleges, deemed university.yur insti may be good in your locality but go to any part of india yu'll get to know that people are dying to get into nit t.so go mug the remaining syllabus to compete wit other local engineers like vitians. don't ever compare wit top engineers (iits, nits, bits, iiits, dce, nsit )
  • | Jul 09, 2010

  • Chandramohan G | Jul 09, 2010

  • Karpagam College of Engg is not there in the list. Kumaraguru college is also missing. Is it possible for you to ask details from the colleges by sending letters or by e mail. I know the difficulty involved in collecting the actual data which should also be cross verified. I feel that more factors to be considered in ranking. It will be better if the team visits the college and find out the real facts.

  • Sraj | Jul 05, 2010

  • TrueIndian | Jul 04, 2010

  • @True Tamilian:U call your self as a true tamilian and how come you claim that you dont Know Thiagarajar college of Engineering which is one of the premiere instituitions of India!, This shows that you have lack of awareness, so Please purchase good magazines like Career 360 and improve your knowledge.
  • ram balaji | Jul 04, 2010

  • In what basis colleges are listed here?
  • True tamilian | Jul 02, 2010

  • Dude yur joking or wat ? Too much ill informed.sokay i'll tell.IIT's Bits , NIT's are the nations prestigious institutes so the best brains get into them.yu need to clear highly competitive jee aieee bitsat.for few thousand seats 10 lakh compete.also iits nits have ini status i.e. Institute of national importance.so yu'll get huge funds, best profs.i bet you cant get these in any state university, affiliated colleges,or in those all time advertising colleges like Vit,srm etc.also don't bliv these rankings bcoz private colleges like vit,srm etc pay for rankings.they don't get ranked among top in all magazines, just one or two which accept money.that's it all d best.
  • @Annauniversity | Jul 02, 2010

  • students with 200 cut off only joining anna university, not iit or nit.so anna university is better than iit.
  • True tamilian | Jul 02, 2010

  • Hi,wat ?NIT-T gets AAA,but some unknown thiagaraja gets AAA+ (same as iit?)totally misleading.NIT-t is next oly to iits ,also the best nit in India, better than any private (ex.bits), state university, and its affiliated colleges.actually only iitm and nit t deserve AAA+ rating in Tamil Nadu
  • b.v.appa rao | Jul 02, 2010

  • SIR,THIS IS A USEFUL INFORMATION.YOU HAVE LEFT OUT THE S.R.M. UNIVERSITY OF DEEMED STATUS AT CHENNAI. IT IS AWELL NOTED ONE.AS POINTED BY MANY PL CORRECT THE STATUS OF INSTITUTES AGAIN AND RE CIRCULATE TO THE EMAIL READERS.THIS WILL HELP.

  • Prateek | Jun 21, 2010

  • Careers 360 has consistently carries good articles on VIT university including a double spread last June 09 issue and has given AAA+ ranking in one place and AAA in another grouping. This is confusing. Which one is better, VIT/SASTRA/SRM/ MANIPAL/PSG/GITAM or NIIT. Pl advice
  • Raghavendran | Jun 19, 2010

  • Some corrections: 1. Amrita College of Engineering is incorrect. Its amrita school of engineering. 2. It doesn't come under a state university. It is a constituent school of the Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham (Amrita University) a deemed university, headquartered at Coimbatore.

  • Please my previous comment, which is a double entry. I pressed F5 and it posted the same message twice!
  • Subrahmanya | Jun 17, 2010

  • @Careers360: Thank you for your reply and action taken. In continuation of my previous comment I wish to state the following: 1. Deemed universities DO display the details on their websites as per MHRD directive, however, it may not include the cutoff marks. In the absence of sufficient data regarding an institute, it would be better NOT to consider it for the ranking at all, rather than giving (some) uniform AA grade. If you do not wish to discriminate between deemed universities, how can you discriminate a deemed university with respect to an affiliated college? Isn't it unfair? 2. Owing to your error of considering Vellore Institute of Technology as an affiliated college rather than a deemed university, you ended up discriminating other deemed universities, as VIT has AAA grade now! Again I suspect you have mistaken (i) Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetam, which is a deemed university, to Amrita College of Engineering; (ii)Vel Tech Deemed university to Vel Tech Engineering College, Chennai. Even if you regroup these two, Amrita Deemed university will end up with AAA grade, again the discrimination! 3. You state that "Our assumption is that, since these colleges have been granted autonomy, they must have the level of infrastructure and educational processes that is better than an average affiliated college". Visit any deemed university and PSG Tech, and you will be proved wrong! 4.

  • @Subrahmanya. Thanks for pointing out the VIT misgrouping. That is corrected. You are absolutely right that all deemed universties have been rated uniformly. This is so because we have very little information to discriminate between them. Say, common sense informs us SASTRA has a better reputation vis a vis another college. But we have no independent means to verify the same. One can not go by Tandon Committee since even the committee provides no data. In fact cut offs for admission to state level colleges are available and are are a means to us to rate them. But even that is not available with respect to Deemed Universities. Our assumption is that, since these colleges have been granted autonomy, they must have the level of infrastructure and educational processes that is better than an average affiliated college. Until the state makes it mandatory for the deemed universities to publish information the way an affiliated college does, we will have this dichotomy.

  • There are a few ambiguities in this ranking: 1. Vellore Institute of Technology is a Private Deemed to be University, however, it has been grouped incorrectly. 2. All private deemed to be universities from Tamil Nadu are rated AA uniformly. This is highly surprising! Some of the deemed universities (like the one which obtained 0 marks from Tandon Committee) have no good placement record, bad library, no or few research publications, no accreditation, no consultancy, low cut off marks (in fact even +2 failed students get admitted!). Yet all deemed universities get uniform AA! 3. Majority of Anna University affiliated colleges have low cut off marks compared to deemed universities, and they run like tutorial colleges. Yet those colleges have been rated better than deemed universities!
