I request u to suggest me the proper course of action. I'm ready to attend regular classes from 6 am to 10 am & from 7pm to 10 pm.Is there any institute (affiliated to ugc/AICTE)available in the vicinity of Karad City(Dist Satara, maharstra)from where I can get the masters/post graduation degree. As AICTE notification, they only recognize the MCA and MBA under distance mode (if these courses are got approval the joint committee of UGC-DEC-AICTE).   • @ vishal a PGD programme is only approved for the purposes of getting a job as a managment professional. Unless your diploma is approved by AIU as equivalent to an MBA you can not teach in a MBA programme.

If your UG degree is recognized by Distance Education Council (DEC), and you have mathematics as a subject in graduation/10+2 (depends on institution’s own criteria), you can do a regular MCA. Depending on individual preferences and circumstances, distance education degrees are a good option provided they are recognized by the DEC.

  • @ravi. DL degrees are approved by DEC and hence are valid for any govt. /psu jobs. But private sector can consider any degree irrespective of its official status. So if a company says it will not accept DL degrees, there is very little that any one can do. But that in no way takes away the validity of your Degree.

  • @ ravi you can not do an LLB by correspondence. It is not aprpoved by Bar council of India and hence you can not practise in a court of law. However part time or evening courses are approved by the BCI. some Universities offer Distance Learning programmes like BAL or BGL, but these are just academic degrees and you can not practise law.

  • @ Padmanabhan: Though both the universities are set up by the state legislation, the state government university can offer both regular and distance learning programmes. The State open universities offer only distance learning programmes where criteria for taking admissions are relatively easier. The institutions which have an affiliation with any university that is recognized by the Government can offer degree be it Master’s/ Bachelor’s/ Phd. Choosing the better of the two depends on host of objective factors and is also a subjective, perception based issue.

  • @imran. you can not compare a regular BE with an AMIE. AMIE is meant for candidates who work working in the engineering trade and have hands on experience. So the practical sessions you get in a BE class, is compensated by the work you do. And the course structure is also such that clearing it is more difficult vis a vis a regular BE. In terms of prospects AMIE is quite well respected espcially in the engineering trade firms. We are not too sure about its currency in the IT trade though. Yes you can do a B.Sc or anyother degree along with AMIE. There is no norm preventing the same. However since you must ideally be working to pursue an AMIE, doing a full time Degree course would be difficult to justify to an employer.

  • @ Shivani, in your case you may consider the following: Anna University, Chennai offers MBA in Health Services Management and Acharya Nagarjuna University offers MBA in Hospital Administration. IGNOU offers a PG Diploma in Food Safety & Quality Management (offered in January session only) which is a 1-year course for Rs 10,800. IGNOU does not offer any distance learning programme in biotechnology or TQM. It does offer a PG Diploma in Hospital & Health Management but for Medical/Dental graduates or MBA pass-outs with 5 years hospital experience. Sikkim Manipal University however offers a MBA with Health care Services Management and Total Quality Management as specialization. SMU also offers MSc in Bioinformatics and a PG Diploma in Clinical Research. The general MBA programmes are offered by quite a few good institutions: IMT Ghaziabad, SCDL Pune, Osmania University, BRAOU, Hyderabad to name a few. There are satellite programmes by XLRI, IIFT and IIMs too.

It is just like any other govt office. I was in it. Its study materials are full unintelligible. It also lacks resources like proper updated library, other things/facilities that are necessary in distance learning like online helps,etc . The VSAT thing is only in paper or its advertisement. Classes irregular & registers/attendant books r filled randomly The only way is to copy project works, memories from its unintelligible books & clear the exams to get the degree while u learn very little or nothing!

  • @ Arpan Sharma, Vijay – The Government of India, as an employer, has clarified its position with regard to the recognition of the qualifications earned through distance mode vide Gazette Notification No. 44 dated 1st March 1995 which inter-alia, states that only such qualifications earned through distance mode, which are approved by Distance Education Council (DEC) and wherever necessary, by AICTE, are recognized for the purpose of employment under Central Government. You must ask your institution if they have been approved by DEC.

  • @Manish: MBA is a course which best benefits a student through the experience of a residential program with lots of group work including live assignments/projects. These things, sadly, cannot be duplicated in a DL program however good the institute/university might be. Considering this, the CS degree you are getting would clearly over-shine the DL MBA degree and therefore, I would advise you to the idea. Instead, what would be more beneficial for you would be a CFA and/or a full-time MBA.

  • @ Pawan Gupta- MCA course is offered by IGNOU, New Delhi, PGRRCDE, Osmania University, BR Ambedkar Open University, Hyderabad to name a few. For lateral entry however, there are certain guidelines that you need to follow for instance at Osmania University, a prior permission from the Registrar has to be obtained for transfer from a regular college.

  • @Abhik: Distance Learning institutes do provide placement assistance but to expect 100% Job Placement is a little too much in the present context. For example, IMT-CDL director Dr. A.M. Sherry finds that most of the DL students are working professionals and don't really need placement services. Symbiosis CDL does hold a two day placement session and IGNOU also has a placement cell. A substantial part of learning in an MBA happens thrugh peer to peer interaction and course level projects. That is one of the reasons why a full time MBA is preferred to a DL mode one. A DL MBA is appropriate for those who are already working in executive level positions and need the knowledge that an MBA programme offers. It also makes you eligible to apply to a host of positions that demand the qualification. It also of Both SMU and IMT according to our ratings offer very good content in their MBA programme. As for as eligibility is concerned an MBA to be valid for higher education/ govt./psu jobs must primarily be approved by DEC. The joint committee approval came later, but since the existence of the committee is itself under the cloud, as of now DEC-AICTE-UGC joint committee approvals are in a limbo. But when they get activited, it's approval too essential for the validity of the degree. @Shrikant. With regards to your specific query, DEC so far approves the institute/ university. It examines their capability in terms of infrastructure and course materials development and offers approval. AICTE too does the same. In addition AICTE also prescribes a model curriculum as well a norms on teachers/ contact hours etc for each programme that an institute offers. Which is why AICTE offers approvals for individual programmes. IMT in this case has been approved by AICTE as well.

There is already a case pending at the Delhi High Court regarding the validity of a Distance Learning B.Tech. So until the policy gets clear we would suggest, you do not look for a DL option in engineering.

  • @ Selvaraja @ Natarajan. A diploma from a deemed university will be valid, provided the university in question has gained approval from DEC as well as UGC for the programmes on offer. A diploma is an entry level programme. So it makes you eligible for entry level operational jobs. For example a diploma in civil engineering will get you jobs like construction supervisor, Assistant level position in an architect or town planners office, junior engineer’s position in some municipalities etc.

  • Sir, I'm planning to do MBA from IMSR(imsrindia.com), as I know it is an autonomous institute and hold no recognition from Indian Govt body, but it does have Ukas Certificate with accreditation from University of northeast Virginia. They are providing almost 50 specialization. My concern is, what is the overall impression of the institute, is it worth to put money and time to study from this institute and how good is the reputation of IMSR is in corporate world. I considered SCDL too but they ask for 5 years expe. and I've of three years only. MITSDE is another option but they provide on PG not MBA which can cause me trouble in future if i decide to do PHd. And I've working with BPO with 2 and half year getting 16K+3K(Incentive)--- But I have no interest in BPO. I'm crazy about finance job, specially in Market Job (like brokerge & share market).   • @Rahul, IGNOU's MCA is one of the well known MCA programmes in the country. Most other Distance Learning instiutes also offer MCA. Please check the list of approved institutes for MCA from www.dec.ac.in before you finalise your admission.

  • Sir, I have completed my B.Sc. Computer Science under Calcutta University (West Bengal). But, due to a job opportunity and my financial background, I may have to stop my regular studies. So, I want to know that Which Institute in India offers best M.Sc. in Computer Science or, MCA in Distance learning mode with average fee structure. I also want to know the Institutes which offers B.Ed in Distance learning mode.
