  • A committee constituted under the chairmanship of K. Lakshminarayana, Commissioner, and Technical education has reported that nearly 497 out of the 672 engineering colleges did not have adequate infrastructure and faculty.

The committee consists of K. Lakshminarayana, Commissioner of Technical Education, D.N. Reddy, JNTUH Vice-Chancellor and N. Prakasa Rao, Academic Auditor and Mentor in the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQUIP), a World Bank funded initiative for engineering institutions in the State.

The committee reported that engineering colleges that have come up in the recent past do not have the required infrastructure like classrooms, labs and qualified teaching staff. This has resulted in resulting in substandard education in the professional courses which is clearly reflected in the low average employability of pass outs of less than 10 per cent reports the committee.

Based on the report, the Council for Higher education, Higher Education will be issuing  notices to 497 engineering colleges in Andhra Pradesh, asking why they should not be shut down for not having proper infrastructure and enough teachers and students.

According to news reports Secretary for Higher Education M D Christopher said these colleges will be told "to take immediate steps to recruit faculty or shut down".

The council of Higher Education, Andra Pradesh is responsible for the overall governance of the higher education institutions in the state.

  • We from A.P have many unemployed engineers due to this very fact and it's good that the committee has really laid the real reason for such huge unemployment and disgrace to the sate as compared to other states. Please do follow up and see that the report is not buried.
