RANKING the top colleges is a very difficult task. While it is relatively easy to create clusters of colleges, it is differentiating within clusters that became the most difficult exercise. So for the first time in the country we have used balanced scorecard methodology to arrive at the ranking of the top 50 colleges.

Ranking methodology: We scanned the last five year rankings of about 241 colleges and normalised their ranks, by assigning differential weights to subjective and objective ranking. Such a process is used to develop clusters of institutions. The research standing of individual institutions were further used to refine the clusters and remove the odd men out. Individual clusters were ranked serially. In each of these clusters the differences in cut-off marks, wherever possible (like in case of IITs and AIEEE institutes and some States) were used to arrive at individual ranks.

That would give us the total monlhty payments which is much more valuable than just the PI, principal & Interest calculator.It should be easy to add on.1. Hey all The above listing is genuine but not upto date There are various engineering colleges in India, other that IIT’s & NIT’s. Though IIT’s are the best but we should know the ranking of other colleges also. I personally donot think that these colleges capture the actual preferences of the Recruiters and students. The current ranking rates IIT b over and above college IIT k, which might be true given the parameters taken into consideration, but again most of us will agree IIT khas more preference when it comes to recruiters and students. This rankings are probably the good source of Engineering College Rankings based on the parameters selected by the Team, but I personally donot think that these colleges capture the actual preferences of the Recruiters and students. The current ranking rates IIT KGP over and above college IIT Bombay, which might be true given the parameters taken into consideration, but again most of us will agree IIT Bombay has more preference when it comes to recruiters and students. Even Dr Abdul kalam said "BIT is known to me since I was a 18 year old boy and pandit jawaharlal nehru rightly remarked that this is a temple of modern India" 3. For the last 10 years the highest number of GATE qualifiers 4. For the last 20 years, it has topped in the number of students joining PSUs. Name a public sector company in India and a Sindri BITian has headed it as a director. In Steel Authority of India alone there have been 15 directors from BIT sindri 5. Has maintained 100 placements since time immemorial 6. 3 alumni has been awarded Padma vibhushan 7. Competition success in its review kept it under the top college list based on faculty 8. Outlook has been including BIT in the top 25 engineering colleges 9. During the LOKPAL discussion in the parliament - the ad hoc speaker Namdhari, is also an alumni of BIT 10. It is the college which brought PRODUCTION ENGINEERING in Asia 11. for all you people who are saying that VIT dsn't deserve to be in the top 20...just persist and listen for a bit...for a record third year the no of candidates appering in VITEEE was above 1.5 lacs...and this year it crossed 2 lacs...2 lac 8 grand to be precise...of which just 11000 ppl got a call for the main campus at vellore...the number of appearing candidates is second only to AIEEE and IITJEE ... and as a matter of fact there's a 1 in 50 chance of a student getting selected in IIT...statistically to get selected in VIT there's a 1 in 34 chance...that's almost comaparable... what do all you bigmouths have to say about that... placements are above 200 % ... with an average salary of 4.8 lc p.a .. tht's a gud sum for starters...and the infrastructure...evry 1 whu has taken glance at the prospectus yearns to be here...so sellout your prejudices and wake up to the reality !!!

Rankings are almost perfect leaving vellore and some other. Some people are commenting on the rank of NITs provided by this list. For their information I would like to mention that NIT Warangal, Suratkal etc. were all good at some time but that was past at present some NITs are putting more effort than others which have decided to bask in their brand name which they have acquired in the past. Those students not happy with the NIT ranking can go to the individual NIT site (www.nitrkl.ac.in-for NIT-RKL)and compare the placement statistics. As for closing rank, that is decided by factors like which state has the coaching system more into its education system. As AP leads that, students having good rank tend to stay in their HS making the closing rank higher. It has nothing to do with quality of the Institute. The writer is a NIT Student

My reference No.2011-13/W/IIPM-PGP (D)/MUM-4/MA-162 Dt 17 Jan 2011.I would like to draw your attention towards following facts that I applied for education loan in Bank of Maharashtra Panvel Branch (M.S) but bank refused to it as IIPM is not approved by AICTE and UGC and mean while on 2 March 2011, Marathi daily News paper (LOKMAT) display news about IIPM. So bank manager show me and I strongly felt that under this situation of uncertainties, why should I undertake this highly expensive course of Rs 6.81 Lakhs in IIPM Khar (w) Mumbai. In such condition when I will be so uncertain about my future prospect. Also, it will not possible for me to pay this huge fee of 6.81 lakhs in 1 year. So, at that time I had decided that not to take admission at IIPM, Mumbai. I also feel that the admission fee at IIPM, Mumbai was out of my reach, and BANK OF MAHARASHTRA also Reject my educational proposal. I belong to a middle class family; such huge amount cannot be managed by my parents easily. And mean while my kid (Ku. Varad age-13months) fall down from BED and get injured on back side of Head, I arrange some money for his medical from my friend and I think to demand my money back from IIPM, Mumbai paid as Retention amount of Rs.39500/- for my Baby’s further Medical treatment, so I am not taking admission, I may be returned this money at the earliest. I call to IIPM, Delhi & Mumbai 100 times for my retention fee but they always said me wait wait..Your case is processing...in few days you got your retention money. But time has passed 2 month already no such amount of my fee is refund to me. They still said me the same thing your case has processing. You get your money back soon wait. Every time IIPM, Delhi makes me fool each time. Please help me sir. My suggestion to freshers here is the list of India’s top 50 engineering institutions and don't try to discriminate colleges further more. All the colleges in the list have good standards bcz of it they are in the list. go for any one by following rank priority.All colleges makes you a good Engineer if u are really a good student.

The rankings look survey based and lack actual efforts. If I am asked which is the best college in India, I'd fill my college name. []This is in general, I wouldnt do that :P] Even if I dont, how the hell do I know which one is better. All false !!

@adarsh,dude ,if ur college, so called MVIT is so good in placement & quality...then what d hell happens to it during counselling of CET & COMEDK..why its least preferred by any know-how student?....why R.V,BMS,BIT,PESIT,RAMAIAM...r most preferred by any student.?.do u think by claiming these false records..students will opt for ur college..the ece & cs branch of RV closes at around 500 rank...and ece & cs of ur college starts at 5000 rank....se d difference...our quality is 10 times better than urs ..this tradition will repeat in this year counselling too,...no matter whatever ur college claims..ok,honestly tell me one thing..did all d branches of ur college was filled during last year's counselling ,?plz don't mislead young minds ,they r the future of our country...

no the ranking is not data based. what i am saying is you should rank not rate the engg. colleges. this doesnot help any student. you give some college AA grade and other also AA grade. Ratings are not helpful in any manner. Yes, rankings are useful. So I wud advice 2 publish top 50 engg. institutes which are already not renowned brands. Hope you wud get what i am saying. I can also see that some prominent institutes like ICFAI Dehradun (which I have earlier also mentioned) are not nationally rated. Instead, ICFAI Hyd. is nationally rated. ICFAI Hyd. has started the B Tech program in 2010. No placements have happnd so far, bt then also u hjav rated it nationally just bcause of its face value. ICFAI Dehradun offers B Tech since 2002 and its placements are also good. But why r not national ranks given 2 it. I bet, you verify data even, if institutes like Doon Valley, Karnal and YMCA, Faridabad hav been ranked nationally, ICFAI Dehradun also deserves one. I hope you would not give a diplomatic answer here and would really see that what I am saying is correct. Plz. do things which arebenificioal to students, not what is benificial to you.

Pls dont believe the comments posted by students from other eng. Colleges of bangalore. In fact they are jealous of our progress. I am astudent of smvit and know the placement facility availabale in our college. It is truly one of the best in terms of both quality and quantity of companies visting the campus. Company like de shaw which has just 1500 employee all over the world and has even not visited nit surathkal yet gave job offer to 4 of our students with highest package of 12 lakhs..in fact placement is also good for non IT branches . L&T provided job offer to 48 students in a batch of 60 students from civil eng. So i request other college students to check their fact before pening their mouth at any public forum.

@rituraj .,,ya..dude u r right.R.V,BIT,BMS are the top colleges of bangalore,avg salary are 3.5 to 4 lac,and 100% placement of eligible student..Only drawback in BIT is that its infra is not so gud,but placement is highly rated..BIET & MVIT r misleading d students.by publishing false placements record in their websites....plz don't believe them..they r less demanded during counseling ,infact they are not able to fill their seats even after the last round of counseling ...

The ranking is definitely better than many other atrocious ones I have seen. However there are some very odd things here too. 1. VIT is nowhere close to 16. 2. Suratkal is the best NIT 3. Where is DAIICT?

ICFAI Dehradun should have been ranked. It is one of the top T- Schools of the country. P'haps Careers360 goes more perceptional and doesnot go with the real data. The magazine should understand that branded rankings are of no use for the students. Students mustknow the second options which "Gradings" donot tell. Infact that makes ambiguity . These colleges are already renowned. Some good, rankable colleges which are less known to people should also be ranked, noted rated.
