      RADIOGRAPHY
Both these domains have a range of options and innumerble instititutions offering these programmes. While radiography intially focussed on X-ray technology and thus offered a certificate programme, now with the advent of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and lasers, this field has become quite complex and high technology-led. Some institutions offer upto Master’s level programme in the domain. But unfortunately there are no structured entrance examinations for entry into this field. Most medical colleges do offer certificate/diplomas, admit students based on localised entrance tests, or scores in their 10+2 board exams. National-level examinations we could only spot for MSc (Medical Physics) programmes by select universites, but such a programme does not fit directly into the scheme of radiography courses .

      MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGY
A reasonably old discipline, the MLT studies straddle the entire credential regimes from basic certificate to Master’s level degree programmes offered by the likes of JIPMER, Pondicherry. While the Master’s does have a national level entrance, details are sketchy and incomplete. On the other hand for the innumerably small-time institutes which offer certificate and diploma programmes, there is little or no regulatory oversight. Unless they offer a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, the institutes do not come under the regulator purview of university regimes and since MLT is not a professional degree there are no professional council that governs the same. So readers are expected to do adequate research on particular institute before taking admissions.

    • The date of the last unprotected sxuael encounter starts the 3 month period. Unprotected sex is a risk factor for acquiring HIV. Add multiple sex partners-another risk factor. I'll set this up with only sxuael transmission as a risk factor although of course there's swapping blood through injecting drugs and mother to baby. Scenario: If you had a negative HIV result this week, to be certain of the result, 1. you should either abstain from sex or practice safer sex by using condoms with every sxuael encounter. 2. Re-test in 3 months-the Western blot and Elisa tests identify the HIV antibody not the virus itself (both tests are done routinely on each blood sample as a confirmation) The body develops these antibodies in approximately 3-6 months after being infected with HIV. 3. Continue the abstinence or safer sex and re-test again in 3 months. 4. Practice abstinence until you are in a monogomous relationship or safer sex thereafter. There is no such thing as safe sex. SAFER sex is protecting yourself by using a barrier-the condom. Abstinence is the only 100% effective means of avoiding HIV via sxuael transmission.
