WITH over 35 business schools in Delhi (and here we solely mean Delhi and not the NCR), the capital of the country does have sound options for management aspirants. The city is the eighth largest metropolis in the world and has been undergoing major developmental activities over the last decade.
Owing to the migration of people from across the country (mostly from the states of North-east India), Delhi has grown to be a multicultural cosmopolitan. Its rapid development and urbanisation, coupled with the relatively high average income of its population, has transformed Delhi into a major cultural, political, and commercial centre of India. The introduction of the metro line through the length and breadth of Delhi has infused new life into it.
One of the oldest B-Schools in the country is the Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), an autonomous institution under the Delhi University. It neither has a full-fledged campus nor fancy infrastructure. It is the immensely venerated faculty and an exceptionally tough entrance requirement that has done the trick for the school. FMS has an eminent position among top 15 management schools in the country.
The Qutub Institutional area in Delhi is home to several A-listed business schools. IIFT, IMI and Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management are all located in this area. These institutes have been consistently ranked 15 to 25 in our survey. IIT-Delhi’s Department of Management Studies also offers a MBA - both full-time and part-time as well as special courses on Project Financing and Healthcare in collaboration with HIT Labs, Columbia University, USA.
The DMS, IIT-Delhi has produced top management at prominent organizations like ICICI, KPMG, Convergys, UBS, Essar and many others. Interestingly, while management schools are beginning to launch specialised MBA programmes, Delhi schools have realised that it might prove a futile activity in the job market. As a result, FMS has merged its MBA Services with its flagship MBA programme.
