DOWN the years, the north-western state of Rajasthan has made significant contribution to the management education in the country, especially in the field of agri-business. The ‘Land of Kingdoms’ is also chosen by IT companies with the presence of an integrated IT park, Mahindra World City, in its capital city.

In this cluster, among the institutes which have specialized courses, one is National Institute of Agricultural Marketing (NIAM) which is gradually gaining a name. Its postgraduate diploma in agri-business management prepares professionals in sectors like food, retailing, agri-input/output marketing, pharmaceuticals, plantation, exports, commodity trading, microfinance, banking, agri-business consultancy, to name a few. It’s the same with Institute of Rural Management which offers a postgraduate programme in rural marketing and agri-business management.

The State that has experienced rigorous efforts by the government also houses renowned institutes like Birla Institute of Technology and Sciences (BITS Pilani) and Jagan Institute of Management Studies (JIMS). BITS Pilani continues to excel among the 25 in the region with its Master of Management Studies programme. It is based on scientific approach with the training procedure aimed at creating manpower skilled in modern technologies and so one of the major eligibility criteria is that the applicant should be an engineering graduate. Jagan Institute of Management Studies (JIMS) though has not been able to buck up much; it maintains its mention in various rankings. Its Jaipur campus is one among the seven established by Jagan Nath Gupta Memorial Educational Society, a non-profit organization.

Another institute, Indian Institute of Health Management Research (IIHMR), entered with a bang but has not been able to pick up noticeably. It conducts programmes dealing with healthcare such as population, leprosy, child health, gender, drugs, among others.
