B-School Ranking 2013 - Best B-Schools in East India

RULED by Nawabs of Bengal in historic times, the Eastern cluster has witnessed gradual growth in various industrial sectors. Many management schools have mushroomed in the region with cities like Kolkata and Bhubaneswar together housing almost 50-odd institutes.

Including both government and private sector, these institutes offer a wide variety of courses ranging from managing social sector to managing technological arena. Students no longer have to run out of their region as with surging employment opportunities, it has become a dominant urban area and a major economic, educational and cultural hub.

Some of the major players include IIM Kolkata and Shillong, School of Management at IIT Kharagpur, XISS Ranchi, XIM Bhubhaneswar, IISWBM Kolkata, BIT Mesra, ISM Dhanbad and XLRI Jamshedpur. IIM Kolkata, which is in the middle of its Golden Jubilee celebrations, was the first institute set up among its system. It has produced many leaders and business tycoons.

On the other hand, Rajiv Gandhi IIM Shillong, popular as IIM Shillong, is the seventh in the line. It’s Centre for Development of North Eastern Region (CEDNER) aims at development of the local community leading to their enhanced exposure through its various short-term and long-term practice-oriented management programmes. There are a number of new entrants in the region  like the Praxis Business School, NSHM knowedge campus, EIILM Univeristy and Heritage Education group who are  gradually picking up pace and challenging established players.
