    • ranking are just numerical fiqures which are often misleading so plz donot trust this ranking and value of tu is decreasing as you all know the teachers are selected on 1 yr contract having mtech degree from ptu level college . i had personally experienced these things plz donot go for thapar
    • prateek | Jun 22, 2012

    • yes,i accept that fees @ thapar is high but it is totally get compensated by placements.....moreover due to high fees only;hostels, library, sports, mess, internet, gym, clubs, societies, canteens, restraunts, theatre,LABS are much better than PEC or other government colleges(even at IITs,4 persons are forced to share room meant for 2 persons only).at thapar, there is no shortage of hostels.quality of teachers & hence study is very nice. take your decision seriously
    • ashish | Jun 22, 2012

    • dear girish...r u comparing thapar by the rankings of THE WEEK..!! the ranking in which nirma is above IIT-G,NIT trichy at around 30th rank below SRM!!! WTF!! get ur facts right dear...thapar being best PVT engg college in north india and below bits-p,BIT,IIIT and PSG only all over india...
    • rhea | Jun 22, 2012

    • those who r criticizing thapar..guys ranking says it all..its the BEST..go n gt a life!!
    • Girish Sharma | Jun 21, 2012

    • Thapar University is a good college but it needs to improve its placement sector. I am a student of TU and I know that ,upto what level it has gone now. It has degraded it in level of teaching and grade levels. Teachers are not that good to teach and there is no focus on understanding the concepts and if you see the graph from last 4 years, number of placements are getting less because companies are opting out. PEC is buch better in terms of placement and teaching level. According to The Week's magazine India is ranked 41 out of 45 deemed enginerring colleges which was ranked 21 when i took admission in this college in 2009. So it is quite better to opt for colleges like PEC and NIT's.
    • Amarbir | Jun 21, 2012

    • dis ranking is completely wrong i m also d student of thapar, its a good college but how it can be ahead of iit ropar and pec....??its only possible if thapar itself had conducted the survey
    • neil | Jun 21, 2012

    • @rahul :- mech nit k , pec auronautical, nit jalandhar then hamirpur sd be at last
    • abhishek | Jun 20, 2012

    • dear allan,no of companies does not matter much but quality of companies does matter which thapar has got...
    • Rahul | Jun 20, 2012

    • i got a rank 8636 all india in aieee 2012 . Which wud be best option for me . I m interested in mechanical stream and i donot have chandigarh or punjab quota . As per last year cut off i m getting aeronautical at pec, mech at nit kurukshetra (bcoz of state quota) and at nit jalandhar and nit hamirpur . Kindly arrange the above listed colleges as its gonna decide my future . Thanks in advance...
    • avinash | Jun 20, 2012

    • i m a final year of t.u, u see i hav only 6.7 c.g and got 3 placements.in good companies ADVENTZS GROUP, ISGEC, INDIA BULLS having max pac. 5.5 lac..and my friend in pec got 8.3 c.g and get only one plcment pac. of 5.5 lac., now u see the difference bet. thapar and pec,. thapar have industrial base earlier than IIT , it has got very excellent allumii records. and with this i thapar is quite equal to iits in placement.....maruti, honda, tata motors recruits half of college..so iss se upar or kya loge..bhai..
    • avinash | Jun 20, 2012

    • i m the thapar student of mechanical engg. final year..., recruitments in thapar in 2011-12 is almost twice as comare to nits, pec..here mechanical rocks. u see, i have only 67% marks and i get 3 plcments in good companies., ADVENTZS, ISGEC, INDIAL BULLS , max. package is 5.5 lac.and i got a my friend in pec. having c.g 8.4 get only only placement of 5.5 lac.., so placement in our campus are excellent...
    • alan | Jun 20, 2012

    • here r the facts, see the decline...companies visited in 2010-11 at thapar - 164 ,companies visited in 2011-12 at thapar - 120
    • nell | Jun 19, 2012

    • thapar rocks..!!!!!

C.S,MECH,ECE,CIVIL,EIC,ELE,CHE....these are considered good branches here....and the development in the campus after it increased the fees is just amazing like we see a building coming here in only 6 months or so....even a meditation park is geeting constructed here...and competetion amg students here is gr8...

    • dear alan, i a student of thapar got placed in texas (6 lakh per annum package)last year.....my branch was EIC...u can also check it fm the list if u hv....so dont say thay that texas and other companies which u mentioned did nt come to campus.....this is all wrong...n abt the reputation of thapar, yes it is gng down but management is very serious abt it and taking strict steps..u can see that cutoff of 2010 and 2011 was also almost same in all the branches....and campus life is just awesome there...only those who cant afford thapar crtisize it...n like bits, vit, manipal it abolished punjab quota (50%) n then eveyone could see fm punjab govt the news spread and reaches central govt with CM of punjab ordering thapar to restore its punjab quota which speaks in itself that thapar is such an imp part of punjab......
    • sumit | Jun 19, 2012

    • comparison of GNDU,UCoE(PUNJABI UNIVERSITY),GNDEC LUDHIANA,PTU COLLEGES. rankings- 1.GNDEC LUDHIANA(although under PTU,but very good college) 2.GNDU(for CS & EC opening & closing ranks are 22000 & 80000 respectively, but quality of study & infrastructure is not very good, but placements are better than UCoE.) 3.UCoE(infrastructure is excellent, labs are well equipped, but quality of students is poor, hence placements are less than GNDU). 4.DAVIET JAL(excellent discipline,...one and only one problem,it is under PTU,otherwise it will be at top of list). 5.cgc landraan rest of other good colleges are gzscet, bathinda etc... one more thing there is no comparison between these colleges and higher colleges(PEC,THAPAR,NIT JALANDHAR).they are much better than these colleges
    • prem | Jun 19, 2012

    • truth...truth........truth quality of students-PEC>NIT JALANDHAR>THAPAR fees-THAPAR>PEC>NIT J lecture hrs & teachin quality-THAPAR>PEC>NIT J placements(CS & MECH)-THAPAR>PEC>>NIT J PLACEMENTS(OTHER BRANCHES)-PEC>THAPAR>NIT J future is yours...choice is yours remember only those who cant afford thapar criticize it....GRAPES ARE SOUR......but it is also true that thapar is going down but management is very serious about it.....at NIT J,highest package is around 9 lakhs only....about PEC,their students perform excellent in CAT,UPSC exams.but B.Tech placement is not as good as quality of students. thnx
    • nikhil | Jun 19, 2012

    • go to thapar only if you r getting mechanical and cse(sd be 1st preference) branch here, otherwise it isnt worth of neither ur money nor time.
    • alan | Jun 19, 2012

    • and if u r studious person and attending boring lectures, flattering teacher and solving numericals and doing study day and night is ur hobby than u r most welcome to thapar un. which we the i guess mostly students say thapar jail.
    • alan | Jun 19, 2012

    • himanshu,go for bits goa...there is going to be a big downfall in thapar in those 4 years and to clarify texas, nokia, adobe, amazon, google didnt visit this year which used to be 2 years before. Thapar education system is more lyk a school 8am-6pm class 5 days a week. bit goa, da-iict, lnmit, bit mesra are better than thapar.
    • nell | Jun 19, 2012

    • i agree with abhishek.....thapar is worth taking admission into...excellent overall study atmosphere...
    • abhishek | Jun 19, 2012

    • dear himanshu,i would prefer thapar if i were getting a ok ok branch there...but if u want to go with a brand name then prefer bits...but remember there is a lot of difference between bits pilani and bits goa....and thapar-a college worth getting into if u could pay its high fee...campus life is just awesome here with overall development in 4years...and the course structure of each branch is very much interesting with many electives offered so that u can study the topics of ur choise....campus placement is also excellent with almost all the top companies visting here including texas, microsoft, infoysis,IBM,amazon, adobe, samsung, nokia, and the list go on and on.....make choise wisely....
    • HIMANSHU | Jun 19, 2012

    • BITS GOA or THAPAR ???????????????????//

    • @sunny posted on 18 july:- I am with you sunny. The same event happened with me. I have maintained my CG to 8.0. I have great knowledge of Signal & Systems but still i got c grade in that but this doesn't mean that scoring here is tough. If you are studin regular you don't have to worry for marks. Faculty here is great bcoz i always crosscheck them in their respective fields. If you are wasting your time with stupid friends!! which are not really friends, it is obvious you will score poor. The great thing for thapar is -: There are many numerous opportunities as compared to other colleges, if you have that capability avail that and you will definitely. Otherwise there is a great saying "" GRAPES ARE SOUR ""
    • prateek laddha | Jun 18, 2012

    • sir i have got aieee 59276 rank in all india....... so pls tell me..... can i got addmission in thapar university........?pls reply me....
    • Sunny | Jun 18, 2012

    • TU facts - Avg. Engg. package 4.5 lacs ! 100% placement as being quoted by some people .. Please get your facts right , I checked the data last month overall we are near 90% and the branches chemical, biotech, ece, inds. most of them got placed in IT companies , same package that is being offered in other PTU colleges , so what's da difference . Join Thapar Alumni group on FB and you'll see most of the deserving students requesting for internships/training ! All hail Thapar for overlooking the needy changes and developing a shopping complex and a sports complex !
    • Sunny | Jun 18, 2012

    • People believe I'm currently studying in Thapar and if you are not a Computer or Mechanical guy you're life is wasted ! Its really hard to get a job and leave that aside its even harder to get grades and yes you'de be far behind in terms of grades as compared to other colleges and that makes you less acceptable off-campus ! This is the TRUTH ! The fee is sky-rocketing , unfriendly teachers and the boring city will make you wanna cry for your life ! But if you just want a degree then just go for it !
    • ravi | Jun 18, 2012

    • total 176 companies visit campus this year...placements in the all branches is 100% except chem(80%) and biotech(60%).....some of the best companies visited campus this year are microsoft, google,de shaw, amazon, juniper, informatica, tally solutions,............and many others........for complete list......go at thapar.edu & click campus placements.......otherwise enter bunkerzpoint.com & login with ur GMAIL ID ......go to placements & you can see the list of companies and package offered by them alongwith eligibilty criteria tooo.......... now the best part to check the purity of thapar.........take any passout from thapar.....most probably he must be at good position in reputed company.....fess is high but hostel facility is far much better than IITs too....sports,fest,internet facility,LABs,library everything is just awesome....
    • dimeg | Jun 18, 2012

    • thapar is obvously best choice than PEC & NIT JALANDHAR for placements.......highest package goes upto 16 lakhs by MICROSOFT with an exceptional package of 1CRORE 10 LAKH by google thru campus placements.......although fees is little bit high, but yes it is worth it....go 4 thapar
    • ojas | Jun 18, 2012

    • wer | Jun 18, 2012

    • thapar used to be an excellent college but now bcoz of excessive fees and poor management ,it has been deteriorated. its no longer on the minds of talented students of punjab.i left bits, goa for thapar and now i am repenting...so go for IIT ropar,PEC,NITJ....
    • Aman Sehgal | Jun 17, 2012

    • This is to inform all the stupid peoples commenting here . I am also the student of TU and i request to first find out whats the truth behind this fee hike and the rising cutt-off of punjab quota. In 1956 when TIET was started the punjab quota was about 85% just same as in now DTU ( 85% quota foe delhi students ), which was reduced to 50% after a long fight with state government. If you are aware TU had abolished this 50% quota this year to improve and to minimize the gap b/w students from open and quota catagory, but in this political fight TU have to give this quota by virtue of 60/40 prcent sharing deed b/w PTET , GOI and Punjab goverment. This is not TU's fault , this is all political game. Beside this TU is the best option as compared to IIT ropar and pec. About fees:- which is 2 lakh per annum is same as of iit's. PLacements are good and every student have 3 choices of companies. Exceptions are always there.

    • I am from thapar un and honestly, i wasted my four years and a million rupees here.
    • alex | Jun 17, 2012

    • In NOTE, MENTIONED below the links of thapar un fee (http://www.thapar.edu/topSubMenu.asp?masterId=1&id=35), they even have written that un. reserves the right to change fee structure at any time of degree. Ha ha...they does same things on academic rules. SCUMBAG hai saale. And the in academis rules & regultions (marks, grades, books) Thapar Un. follows IIT - KANPUR , and they proudly say that. Doesnt they cant differ. b/w level of a student one who is a IIT and other who comes at THAPAR Do ask yourself a Q. before joining THAPAR that do u want to go to a school or a college.

    • http://www.thapar.edu/topSubMenu.asp?masterId=1&id=35... Just visit the link for further details... The Crowd has worsened .Rich Spoilt Punjabi Brats have spoilt the situation here .Good Profs Are Leaving the university ...and the diploma holders and the M/tech pursuing people are being appointed as Associate Profs.... Full on Commercialism with the market showrooms coming up in the campus... All the funds being diverged to open shops for big retailers inside the campus instead of improving Academic Infra.

    • Thapar Sucks Big Time ... Just see the cutoffs for last year.. I being a student there would advise people not to join it. Fees has been increased to Around 2 lac per annum (excluding hostel) and the cutoffs have gone down by a huge margin .eg Mechanical closed at 27000 for punjab . Haha good news for people with rank 40-50000 now u can get Electrical/civil at Thapar this Year... Its going worse than Manipal/VIT. One of the Worst Money Minded people running the business. Corrupt Management..& yes Management Seats Are a Reality Here ..

    • Total hw many seats are alloted for BTech 2012 in thapar univer.
    • Mohit | Jun 16, 2012

    • @Alex, Hey Alex, I respect your feelings. I did felt the same, but over the time i have realised that Thapar University charges a moderate tution fee, rest goes in the development fund. Moreover, Thapar Lecturers are among the highest paid, and it should be so too, because adequate quality standards could then only be maintained. Not only this, it maintains a balanced approach towards education and training. No doubt, i agree with you, that it is really tough for a middle class family to afford Thapar's expenses, but then its purely your individual choice, without any insistence! But, definitely those who CAN afford, its a worthy college to go for!
    • alex | Jun 16, 2012

    • thapar sucks, think abt joining thapar only if u have millions of money and courage to do rote learning 4 years. Tuition Fee - 1,00,000 (excluding hostel) and on this there is an increment of 10% in tuition fee per sem and hostels are also very expensive. Thapar is no longer a college, its a business. Academic rules in thapar are tougher than any other un. in India. Even Thapar faculty isnt well-qualified to teach u. Go to iit/nit/da-iict/lnmit or any other decent govt. or private deemed un.
