    Hi Manish!

If you are not satisfied with your career then consider the following moves:

    -         You may change your job stream from academics to corporate on the basis of your qualification.

    -         You may upgrade skills through a programme that can also help you get a job to your liking.

You can go for postgraduation in management from a decent B-School, since you have already done a course in core finance. This can help you kickstart your career. This programme can also help you apply technical knowledge, with better opportunities.

Alternatively, pursuing CA is fair, as it offers a rewarding career but at the cost of time usually! I would recommend you to take a call on these options considering your own interest, primarily.

Hi Amaresh! There are some well known Commerce Colleges such as Shri Ram College of Commerce Delhi, Loyola College Chennai, St Xavier’s College Kolkata, St Joseph’s College Bangalore, Hans Raj College Delhi to name a few.

The admission to these is on merit basis where cut offs percentages are pretty high! The notifications appear in national dailies and on their websites around May-June onwards. All the best for exams!

      Hi there!

It’s good to acquire work experience before setting up business. Having pursued engineering and with plans to be an entrepreneur, we advice you to pursue a programme in Business Administration, since you already have a technical degree. You can also consider Entrepreneuship Management programmes offered by Entrepreneurship Development Institute, as well.

As far as dual/ double degrees from US are concerned, we are not sure how good the prospects are.

Hi Vivek! There are two viable options for you:

If you are willing to move ahead as an academician, then pursuing Postgraduate programme in same field is advised, followed by fellow programme or a Doctorate. However if you are willing to move out of teaching and have a rewarding career as a software professional in the long run then a management programme may be of your help. All the best!

Hi! Well there are quite a few options available for you after Class 12.

        A)    Commerce - The courses offered are BCom, MCom, CA, ICWA, ICSI, CFA

        B)     Management - You may pursue BBA, MBA (or BCom followed by MBA)

        C)    Law - where LLB is offered

        D)    Arts - BA which is offered with various specialisations

Apart from these you may also consider other prominent sectors like Hospitality, Banking etc which also offer specialised courses. Keeping these in mind, choose the one that suits you, considering its prospects.

Go ahead and take an informed decision!

      • Careers360 answered:

Hi! After you complete your BSc (IT), you can also go for an IT job for a few years rather than jumping into an MBA or the IAS, right away. As far as comparing these two options is concerned, what your father possibly refers to is the cut-throat competition and associated unethical behaviour prevalent in the corporate sector.

In today’s world, due to the degradation of the ethical fibre of the society at large, there is no career option, which is free from these evils. In the government sector also, you have to deal with issues like corruption, seniority based promotions (rather than merit-based) etc.

Hence I advise you not to be bogged down about life’s challenges which you’ll have to face irrespective of your career choice. Go with the career option, which your heart beckons. However, be well aware of the circumstances you are likely to confront in your career and take a well-informed decision.

        All the best!

        Hi!

You can't go for a science/ technical postgraduate course in India without having science at the graduation level and you don't want to repeat your graduation. The only solution to me seems to be to go for an MBA and specialise in IT/ Systems.

Please note that you will have to make a lot of effort on your own to make sure you are tech-savvy before you start with the hardcore IT/ Systems electives in the second year. Therafter, only your own sound technical knowledge is going to convince the interview panel during placements. I do know of people coming from commerce background who have succeeded in the technology field this way.

        All the best!

Dear Divya, first, I think you should go and see the movie 3 Idiots! You should go for an MBA if you have an interest in the business and commercial aspects rather than just technical things. If technology is what really sets your pulse racing, you should go for an M.Tech.

Do remember, you also have the option of going for a job right now and an MBA would make much more sense after two to three years of work experience. All the best!

      • Careers360 answered:

Yes. both are variants of MBA, but are very different in their status. MMS, is a regular degree offered by Mumbai University. It is a  recognised degree and can be used for higher education purposes as well

PGDM is an autonomous programme offered by the individual institute. It is a diploma. If it is approved by AICTE, then it is considered as equivalent to an MBA.

Hi! If you take biology in Class 12, you could opt for Biotech or Physiotherapy, to name a few courses apart from MBBS, although you have more options with maths as a subject. But what's most imporant is choosing a career, which interests you.

Hi! As far as ranking goes, IRMA Anand, IBS Hyderabad and XIMB are considered to be promiminent B-schools as compared to Lal Bahadur School, which is also a decent one. Consider your area of interest as well - whether would you like to pursue a Rural Management or a general MBA programme.

Hi Harsh! You have two viable options:

        1. You can either chose to go for an MBA to acquaint yourself of business processes/ terminologies

        2. Take up a job and get some ground level exposure to the same business processes and complete your MBA after 2-3 years.

I would personally recommend the second option to you as it would give you the much needed grounding for starting something on your own.

Hi! You should go for an agri-business management course only if:

        1. You have a passion for the field and you are sure you are going to work in this field.

        2. You complete this education from a reputed college, (for Eg. IIM-Ahmedabad which offers this course), so, that you can have proper training and a decent placement.

If the answer to both options is 'no' then go for general MBA which helps you to keep all your options open rather thanm going in for a niche sector.

        All the best!
