For us at Careers360, this first attempt at examining the B-Schools was a lesson in so many ways. The first realisation was, the most important component that adds value to a student; the process that is undergone during the two years he or she spends in a B-School is not captured adequately by any survey, including ours. Even in terms of our existing methodology, the kind of parameters that we have used to assess the process, like guest lectures, learning methodologies, course contents, faculty participation etc., are at the best only proxies for understanding learning. What we would like work on is to develop metrics that would enable us to capture the value addition process.
An ideal way to do so would be to begin assessing the course design and delivery process of a B-School. We have gathered substantial data during the current year in terms of existing curriculum, which we intend examining in a continuum over the coming years so that we would be able to indicate to the readers, what is changing in the curriculum and what is not.
The second area we would like to focus on is, design a separate metric for corporates to evaluate a B-School. The idea is to work with HR executives to understand how they evaluate the job-readiness of an individual and then incorporate the same rubrics in our methodology.
The third major area we would like to work on is to initiate some work on examining the long-term value addition that a B-School education imparts by surveying alumni performance over a longer period of time in association with the B-Schools.
However much we have tried, we are very clear that the ranking that we have produced would invariably not make all the stakeholders happy, and deserving schools might have been treated less than deservingly. In a lot of cases, lack of data from even participating schools had precipitated matters. But equally we could also be at fault. If a participating college finds any thing amiss, we would only be too glad to correct ourselves.
Lastly, to our readers, please take all the rankings with a pinch of salt. The differential weights always determine differential outputs. Frankly, we have attempted to mirror your objectives as much as possible.
