The eligibility criteria for admission in kerala is as follows:

Nationality - Only Indian candidates are eligible to apply for admission to KEAM. Candidates who are Persons of Indian Origin (PIO)/ Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) will also be considered at par with Indian citizens for admission, however, they will not be entitled to any kind of reservation.

Nativity – On the basis of nativity, candidates will also be considered for admission and categorised into Keralite, Non-Keralite Category I (NK I) and Non-Keralite Category II (NK II).
Keralite: Candidates of Kerala origin will be categorised as a Keralite. Children of All India Service (AIS) officers (Non-Keralites) allotted to Kerala cadre are also considered as Keralites but it is to be noted that they will not be eligible for Communal/ Special/ Persons with Disabilities reservation or any fee concession.
Non-Keralite Category I (NK I): Candidates will be categorised as Non-Keralite Category I (NK I) if they are not of Kerala origin but satisfies anyone of the following conditions:

Candidates who have undertaken qualifying course in Kerala and their Non- Keralite parents belong to Government of India/ Defence Service, posted to Kerala.

Candidates who have undergone qualifying course in Kerala and their Non- Keralite parents who are serving/ served Government of Kerala for a minimum period of two years.

Candidates who are not of Kerala origin but has been a resident of Kerala for a period of 5 years within the period of 12 years of their study.

Candidates who are not of Kerala origin but who have undergone their school studies in Kerala from standard VIII to XII.
Such candidates will be considered against ‘State Merit’ seats for engineering but will not be eligible for Communal/ Special/ Persons with Disabilities reservation or any fee concession during the KEAM admission procedure.
