    In our society where education is becoming costlier day by day, not all families find it easy to fund their wards' higher education. And those belonging to the EWS category find it extremely difficult to provide their children with equal access to mainstream education. Here come ‘scholarships’ that make it possible for such financially weak students to continue their education and make their future better.

    Over the years, both the central and state governments have come up with many scholarship programmes for the students belonging to the BPL, SEBC, EWS etc category. These scholarships play a vital role in the growth and upliftment of such students who are unable to continue their studies due to financial constraints. In this article, Careers360 has listed various EWS scholarships provided by the state governments of Maharashtra and the Central government. The deadline to apply for these scholarships is March 31, 2023.

    Vocational Training Fee Reimbursement Scholarship for SEBC and EWS Students

    This scholarship is an initiative of the Skill Development, Employment and Entrepreneurship Department, Government of Maharashtra to provide financial assistance to those students who have taken admission in any government industrial training institute or private industrial training institutes and belong to Socially and Economically Backward Classes (SEBC) and Economically Weaker Sections (EWS).

    Eligibility:

    • Must be a permanent resident of Maharashtra.

    • Must belong to SEBC and EWS.

    • Must have taken admission through Public-Private Partnership (PPP) scheme in any government industrial training institute or private industrial training institutes through the Central Online Admission process.

    • Must not be availing any other scholarship or benefit from training programs sponsored by State or Central Government.

    • The annual family income must be less than or equal to Rs 2.5 lakh or above Rs 2.5 lakh to less than or up to Rs 8 lakh.

    What It Covers:

    • Those with their family income less than or equal to Rs 2.5 lakh will get 80% rebate on the course fee.

    • Those with their family income above Rs 2.5 lakh to less than or up to Rs 8 lakh will get 100% rebate on the course fee.

    Note:

    • Any orphan student applying for this scholarship must possess a recommendation letter.

    • This scholarship can be availed by only two children of a family.

    Vocational Education Fee Reimbursement 2022-23

    Aimed to provide financial aid to the students belonging to scheduled tribes and pursuing any vocational course like MBA, MCA, animal husbandry, Vaastu shastra, dairy development, pharmacy, engineering etc, the Tribal Development Department, Government of Maharashtra has started this scheme.

    Eligibility:

    • Must be a domicile of Maharashtra.

    • Must belong to a Scheduled Tribe (ST) Community.

    • Must be enrolled in a vocational course in any government approved college or institution.

    • The annual family income should not exceed Rs 2.5 lakh

    What It Covers: Money to pay off the vocational education tuition fee and examination fee as per the approved college/institution fee structure.

    Eklavya Scholarship 2022-23

    This scholarship is provided by the Directorate of Higher Education, Government of Maharashtra to those EWS students who have graduated in Science, Arts, Commerce and Law with good marks and have taken admission in PG.

    Eligibility:

    • Must be a permanent resident of Maharashtra.

    • Must have completed graduation from a recognized institution or University of Maharashtra with at least 60 percent marks in Law, Commerce & Arts stream and at least 70 percent marks in Science stream.

    • The annual family income should not be more than Rs 75,000.

    • Must not be working anywhere.

    What It Covers: One time amount of Rs 5,000.

    Note: Students meeting all the eligibility criteria for this scholarship but are studying outside of Maharashtra are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.

    Post-Matric Tuition Fee and Examination Fee 2022-23

    An initiative of the Department of Social Justice and Special Assistance, Government of Maharashtra, this scholarship aims to provide financial assistance to the matric passed students belonging to SC or Neo-Buddhist community.

    Eligibility:

    • Must be a permanent resident of Maharashtra.

    • Must belong to the Scheduled Caste (SC) or Neo-Buddhist community.

    • Must have passed Class 10.

    • Must be studying in a government recognised institute in Maharashtra.

    • The annual family income should not exceed Rs 2,50,000.

    What It Covers: Paid mandatory fees like tuition fees, exam fees etc will be reimbursed.

    Government of India Post-Matric Scholarship for SC Students 2022-23, Maharashtra

    This scholarship is provided by the Department of Social Justice and Special Assistance, Government of Maharashtra to financially assist the students belonging to the SC or Neo Buddhist category and residing in Maharashtra. The motive of this scholarship is to reduce the school dropout rate especially in the SC and Neo Buddhist category students.

    Eligibility:

    • Must be a permanent resident of Maharashtra.

    • Must belong to the Scheduled Caste (SC) or Neo-Buddhist community.

    • Must have passed Class 10.

    • Must be studying at the post-matric level in a government recognised institute in Maharashtra.

    • The annual family income should not exceed Rs 2,50,000.

    What It Covers: The maintenance allowance will be provided per month for up to 10 months as per groups viz. Group I, Group II, Group III and Group IV as mentioned below:

    For Day Scholars:

    • Group I - Rs 550 per month

    • Group II - Rs 530 per month

    • Group III - Rs 300 per month

    • Group IV - Rs 230 per month

    For Hosteller:

    • Group I - Rs 1200 per month

    • Group II - Rs 820 per month

    • Group III - Rs 570 per month

    • Group IV - Rs 380 per month

    Other Benefits:

    • Additional allowances of up to Rs 150 per month for disabled students belonging to SC category.

    • A transportation allowance of Rs 100 will be given to students residing outside the hostel campus.

    Note: In addition to the maintenance allowance mentioned above, all compulsory payable fees like tuition fees, exam fees etc are also covered under this scholarship.

    Maintenance Allowance for SC Students in Professional Courses 2022-23

    This scholarship is an initiative of the Department of Social Justice and Special Assistance, Government of Maharashtra to provide financial aid to those students who belong to SC community and are enrolled in a professional course.

    Eligibility:

    • Must be a domicile of Maharashtra.

    • Must be enrolled in a professional course.

    • Must be availing any scholarship provided by the Government of India.

    • The annual family income from all sources should not exceed Rs 2.5 lakh.

    • Must be a hosteler (residing in either a government hostel or institute's hostel or any hostel outside).

    What It Covers: The benefits provided are as follows:

    For students residing in Government hostels:

    • Course duration between 4 - 5 years: Rs 700 per month (not exceeding Rs 7,000 a year).

    • Course duration between 2 - 3 years: Rs 500 per month (not exceeding Rs 5,000 a year).

    • Course duration of below 2 years: Rs 500 per month (not exceeding Rs 5,000 a year).

    For students residing in any hostel other than a Government hostel:

    • Course duration between 4 - 5 years: Rs 1,000 per month (not exceeding Rs 10,000 a year).

    • Course duration between 2 - 3 years: Rs 700 per month (not exceeding Rs 7,000 a year).

    • Course duration of below 2 years: Rs 500 per month (not exceeding Rs 5,000 per a year).

    Post Matric Scholarship Scheme Government of India 2022-23, Maharashtra

    This scholarship is provided by the Maharashtra Government and Tribal Development Department, Government of India to the students belonging to Scheduled Tribe (ST) community in Maharashtra. This scholarship is for those underprivileged ST students who have passed Class 10 and are unable to continue their higher education due to financial problems.

    Eligibility:

    • Must belong to Scheduled Tribe (ST) category of Maharashtra.

    • Must have passed Class 10.

    • The annual family income from all sources should not exceed Rs 2.5 lakh.

    • Must not have a backdrop of two or more years in his/her formal education.

    What It Covers: The benefits under this scholarship will be provided as per groups viz. Group I, Group II, Group III and Group IV as mentioned below:

    For Hostellers/Day Scholars:

    • Group I: Rs 550 - Rs 1,200

    • Group II: Rs 530 - Rs 820

    • Group III: Rs 300 - Rs 570

    • Group IV: Rs 230 - Rs 380

    Reader Allowance:

    • GroupI - II: Rs 240

    • Group III: Rs 200

    • Group IV: Rs 160

    Other Benefits:

    • Escort allowance of Rs 160 per month.

    • Special pay of Rs 160.

    • For mentally retired students, an extra coaching fee of Rs 240 per month.

    • Study tour allowance of Rs 1,600 per annum.

    • Allowance of Rs 1,600 per annum for Thesis typing and printing.

    • Book grant of Rs1,200 per annum.

    Post Matric Scholarship to SBC Students 2022-23

    An initiative of the VJNT, OBC and SBC Welfare Department, Government of Maharashtra, this scholarship aims to financially aid the students belonging to the SBC category and have passed Class 10 & are pursuing their studies at post-matric level.

    Eligibility:

    • Must be a permanent resident of Maharashtra.

    • Must belong to the Special Backward Classes (SBC) category.

    • Must be pursuing his/her education at post-matric level approved by the government.

    • Must have taken admission through the Centralised Admission Process (CAP) round (for those pursuing professional courses).

    • Must have at least 75 percent attendance in the current year.

    What It Covers: The benefits under this scholarship will be provided as per groups viz. Group A, Group B, Group C, Group D and Group E as mentioned below:

    Group A:

    • Hosteller: Rs 425 per month

    • Day scholar: Rs 190 per month

    Group B:

    • Hosteller: Rs 290 per month

    • Day scholar: Rs 190 per month

    Group C:

    • Hosteller: Rs 290 per month

    • Day scholar: Rs 190 per month

    Group D:

    • Hosteller: Rs 230 per month

    • Day scholar: Rs 120 per month

    Group E:

    • Hosteller: Rs 150 per month

    • Day scholar: Rs 90 per month

    Post-Matric Scholarship to VJNT Students, Maharashtra 2022-23

    This scholarship is provided by the VJNT, OBC and SBC Welfare Department, Government of Maharashtra to the students belonging to the VJNT category and studying in any class from Class 11 to Ph.D. The scheme aims to financially help the VJNT category students in continuing higher studies.

    Eligibility:

    • Must be a permanent resident of Maharashtra.

    • Must belong to the Vimukta Jati Nomadic Tribes (VJNT) category

    • Must be studying at post-matric level (Class 11 to PhD) from a government approved institution.

    • The annual family income should not exceed Rs 1.5 lakh.

    • Must have at least 75 percent attendance in the current year.

    What It Covers: The benefits under this scholarship will be provided as per groups viz. Group A, Group B, Group C, Group D and Group E as mentioned below:

    Group A:

    • Hosteller: Rs 425 per month

    • Day scholar: Rs 190 per month

    Group B:

    • Hosteller: Rs 290 per month

    • Day scholar: Rs 190 per month

    Group C:

    • Hosteller: Rs 290 per month

    • Day scholar: Rs 190 per month

    Group D:

    • Hosteller: Rs 230 per month

    • Day scholar: Rs 120 per month

    Group E:

    • Hosteller: Rs 150 per month

    • Day scholar: Rs 90 per month

    Note: 100 percent tuition fees, exam fees and maintenance allowance will be given to students who are studying in government/aided/non-aided institutions and pursuing any of professional, non-professional, B.Ed or D.Ed courses.
