Careers360 has rated 694 universities in India 2013. The top universities in India have been rated from 5 stars to 1 star. The universities range from Public Universities to Private Universities. They are further divided according to disciplines such as Agriculture, Engineering, Multidisciplinary Universities, Medical Universities and specialty universities.

The Engineering Universities and the Multidisciplinary Universities are further divided into Public and Private Universities. The best universities in India are also assessed on the basis of Teaching, Research Output, International Outlook, Citations and Industry Income.

The methodology for rating the top universities in India 2013 is as follows:
  • Accreditation
  • Publications (Scopus and Web of Science)
  • Deemed University Score (if applicable)
  • Indian Patents

Now let us see the methodology which was used for deciding the number of stars to the participating universities in the Careers360 Rating of top universities in India 2013.

5-Star Universities

  • NAAC score of 3.61 and above
  • 6500 Scopus publications or above
  • NAAC score between 3.20-3.60 and 5000 publications or above
  • 50 granted patents or above
  • 500 patent applications or above

4-Start Universities

  • NAAC score of 3.20-3.60
  • 3000-6500 Scopus publications
  • NAAC score between 3.01 to 3.19 and publication above 1000
  • Patents filling above 50
  • 10-49 granted patents
  • 1-9 patent granted and 1000 publications are above

3-Star Universities

  • NAAC score of 3.0-3.19
  • 1000-3000 Scopus publications
  • NAAC score 2.75-2.99 and Scopus publications over 500
  • Patent filling 10-49/5-10 granted patents and 100 Scopus publications and above/1-4 granted patents and 500 publications or above

2-Star Universities

  • NAAC score of 2.5-2.99
  • 500-1000 Scopus publications
  • NAAC score of 2.0-2.49 and 2.50 Scopus publications or above
  • Patent filing 1-9
  • 1 granted patent and Scopus publications above 100
