Bapatla Engineering College was established in 1981. It is an autonomous institute functioning under the jurisdiction of Bapatla Education Society. BEC Bapatla has been conferred the status of autonomous by UGC. The college is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Government of India. Bapatla Engineering College is also accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and approved by the All India Council for Technical education (AICTE). The college is affiliated to Acharya Nagarjuna University. BEC Bapatla has also been selected as a Network Institute for the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) of the Ministry of Human Resources Development and the World Bank. 

The college offers eight B.Tech programmes, five M.Tech programmes, five M.Sc. programmes and a M.C.A. programme. In addition to the above programmes, the college also offers four diploma programmes in engineering. Bapatla Engineering College also has many centres of learning like Bosch Rexroth Center of Competence, Siemens Center of Excellence, Robotic Technology Centre, etc. The college has a total of 252 well-qualified faculty members. The total number of students enrolled at present is 4564. The student-teacher ratio at BEC Bapatla is 18:1. The college also has many national and international collaborations like North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC), Umiam, Meghalaya, Construction Industry Development Council, Delhi, New Mexican State University, NEW Mexico, USA, etc.
