CDS Thiruvananthapuram Facilities Details: Hostel, Campus, Infrastructure, Library, Canteen

Ever since its inception, CDS has accorded high priority to building up a good library in social sciences. It is now one of the leading social science research and reference libraries in the country with a rich collection of books, journals, publications of other research institutes (national and international), and government publications. The library collection has over one hundred and fifty thousand titles covering development studies, economics, sociology, demography, statistics, history, political science, and other allied subjects. It subscribes to 230 journals currently. In addition, it receives about 120 journals by way of gifts or exchanges. The library maintains an exchange program of publications with a number of national and international organizations.

The computer lab houses 15 PCs with Windows10 / Windows 8.1 and other essential software including statistical packages like STATA and E-Views. This lab has been used for computer-based training programs and workshops regularly.

CDS campus is fully WI-Fi enabled. All the buildings on the campus are equipped with a Wi-Fi facility. Wi-Fi facility is also available in the guest house and the hostels for students.

The Centre has a well-appointed guest house comprising of 14 rooms. Providing a homely atmosphere to guests is the prime concern of the Guest House. Facilities like electric kettles, tea/ coffee making items, cable television, and hot water is available in all rooms.

CDS offers on-campus residential facilities for students enrolled in the MA, M.Phil, and Ph.D. programs. The college has five modern hostels have 90 rooms.

By now, CDS teaching programs have completed three decades and we take pride in having a galaxy of alumni from the MPhil, Ph.D., and P&SD programs. Looking back, CDS has an equally exotic past with an enviable crop of academics/researchers/and other staff, who gave their due share for its present strength.

 The college has a cafeteria that serves both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes, providing a nutritious balanced diet to the CDS community. Located next to the Guest House, it also caters to the needs of CDS guests and visitors. The cafeteria is managed by CMC (Canteen Management Committee) with representatives from faculty, staff, and students.

The Baker Auditorium, named after Laurie Baker, the architect who had conceived and designed the campus and buildings has a capacity to seat around 150 people. The auditorium which is used for seminars, conferences, and public lectures and events is equipped with all the latest equipment and facilities for making presentations and conducting public gatherings.

The Indoor Badminton Court, called IBC, is a long pending addition to the avenues for recreation within the campus

The college also provides good classrooms for all students.

The college also has a Training and placement cell that continuously strives to help students pursue their career goals by acquiring employment-seeking skills and ultimately attaining desired employment.
