The Dispur College was initially set up in, as the name suggests, the city of Dispur, which is the capital of Assam state. This happened in the year 1978. The college shifted to its present location in Guwahati in 1988. Guwahati is the biggest city of the state. The Dispur College is affiliated to the Gauhati University (GU). This affiliation, ensures approval with the UGC (University Grants Commission). The Dispur College has also been accredited by the NAAC (National Assessments and Accreditation Council), earning a B grade rating. A separate IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell) has been created to this end, to ensure that all the terms of the NAAC are complied with. The college has an urban campus spanning an acre of land.
The courses being imparted here, are restricted to the UG level alone. Among the general courses, there is the B.A General and the B. Com Honours. There are also some professional programmes on offer here. These are for BBA (Bachelor of Business Administration) and BCA (Bachelor of Computer Applications). There is also a Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications. This is a shorter- duration programme. Some miscellaneous career- driven programmes may also be undertaken here. The IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University) has in fact recognized the Dispur College as one of its Partner Institutes for the Convergence Scheme. This is applicable even for masters and diploma courses, besides certifications and the college’s flagship undergrad programmes.
The Guwahati- based Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University (KKHSOU) has also designated the Dispur College as a Study and Examination Centre for several of its Distance Education programmes. The Dispur College is also an Oral Coaching Centre for the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI), previously known as ICWAI, as it was for Cost and Works Accountants. The GU’s IDOL (Institute of Distance and Open Learning) has also designated the Dispur College as a Study Centre for its IT courses on offer. This college is also an ASOS (Assam State Open School) centre under the AHSEC (Assam Higher Secondary Education Council). Several of the courses offered here, may even be taken up during the evening shift. The college has by now also developed an extensive alumni network, built over the years.
The campus has much to offer. There is a sports field where cricket and football may be played. Facilities are also there for indoor sports. The gymnasium may also be used by the college students and staff. Departmental stores, public transport and banks with ATM facilities are available just outside the college campus. A large auditorium is there to facilitate major events, at both intra and inter college level. The campus is Wi- Fi enabled since 2011. Some laboratories are also present. A medical centre is also there to cater to sudden exigencies. Adequate food options are there at the college cafeteria. The library here is one of the best stocked within the region. Besides the physical books available, it also provides digital access to en number of international academic journals for research and academic purposes. The library is also a regional centre under the NLIST (National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content)- INFLIBNET (Information and Library Network Centre) capacity.

Infrastructure here is good but it needs to be maintained time to time. Management here need to be focus more on maintaining the infrastructure. Our college have some digital classroom also, and wifi is also available here but thier is only problem that things dont get maintained well.
Our college have all the necessary infrastructure and equipment but it needs to be updated because infrastructure is not well maintained here. Here you get different capacity classroom and even some class room is having digital board also. But no hostel facility is available
My college has almost all the necessary facilities and equipment. It has AC, Projectors in most of the classroom. There are still many classroom without AC and Projector. The college doesn't provide Wifi for students. It has a library with a huge collection of resources. The college doesn't have hostel facility for boys and girls. It has a Canteen for the students in which hygienic food are served at an affordable cost.
