The GIBS Business School is located in the IT capital of India- Bengaluru. The city is the capital of Karnataka state. GIBS Business School is affiliated to the Bangalore University (BU), of course also located in the same city. This affiliation, ensures the approval of the UGC (University Grants Commission). One of courses have also been ratified by the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education). The college is a member of the AIMA (All India Management Association). The campus is an urban one, stretching over five acres of land. The GIBS Business School is also an ISO (International Organization for Standardization) certified institution.
The college has highly ambitious, but definitely realistic plans for the future. It is aiming to build campuses in the three other major educational hubs of the country in- New Delhi, Pune and in Kolkata. It is also planning an international campus in Dubai, part of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the Middle East region. At present, it has a single- minded focus, when it comes to education, as it only dabbles in the field of management. It provides a two- year Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM), which thanks to the AICTE recognition, stands equivalent to any MBA in the country. At the same level, there is also the MBA which provides the degree from the BU.
For students enrolled at the undergrad level, they may go for a BBA, also provided by the BU. The BBA has a common curriculum for all the students in the first two years. A specialization is possible in the third year. Students need to choose electives from either of Finance, Marketing or Human Resources Management. Likewise, in the MBA, the first year has a common curriculum to all. Students go through all major subject areas, before deciding on there are of choice in the second year during their summer internship. They may then opt for specialising from the areas of- Finance, Marketing, Human Resources and in Health Care Management.
There is also an MBA with specialization in Banking, Finance and Insurance (BFIS). A special module exists for Start- ups and SMEs. The PGDM too has a similar course outlook. Instead of the last three areas mentioned, it offers specializations in International Business, Finance Information Technology and in Retailing & Supply Chain Management. There is also a one- year Executive PGDM. This is meant primarily for working professionals, seeking to enter the managerial cadre. This course is only open to those with a minimum three years of work experience. The college also offers several Value- Added Programmes. These are available in the areas of- Six Sigma, SAP, Project Management and in Life Skills.
A certification is available for Microsoft Excel and Digital Marketing. Another is called the Campus to Corporate (C2C) Certification. The provision of this is the ultimate stamping of any candidate’s employability levels. The student is thus ready to take- off at the workplace. An Authentic Leadership Programme has been floated in here by the Heartfulness Institute. The academics here at the GIBS Business School has been very intricately designed, keeping in view the industry trends taking place globally. The college in fact has a Global Advisory Board, that has members from different parts of the world, pitching in with their insights in making management education truly for practitioners. It is a mix of academicians, policy makers and industry experts.
Admissions to the PG programmes is via the CAT (Common Admission Test). For the BBA, it is based on merit of school- leaving exams. Research too forms a very important part of the GIBS Business School in Karnataka. This is done by the different stakeholders pitching in together. Some of the key areas in which research takes place here includes- International Finance, Behavioural Finance, Corporate Venturing, Risk Management, Business Marketing, Competitive Advantage, Mentoring, Business Policy, Cross- cultural Adaptation and more. It helps develop the budding entrepreneurs among the students for the institute. Experienced trainers and entrepreneurs are invited to campus to deliver guest lectures and interact with those who have such business models.
There is substantial international collaboration too at the GIBS Business School. The Dean of the Nottingham University in Malaysia, sits on the college’s Global Advisory Board.
