IMM FOSTIIMA is an amalgamation of two competing colleges, which have now come together. The combined entity is now known as the IMM FOSTIIMA Business School or the IFBS. This entity came into being in 2017. They have a joint campus in South Delhi. The IMM or Institute of Marketing and Management is a very old entity, having been founded way back in 1969. FOSTIIMA stands for Friends of Seventy- Three IIM Ahmedabad. This is because, the college was founded by the alumni from the IIMA’s batch of the year 1973. Most of the faculty belong to the IIT- IIM network. The merger has only been for three batches beginning in 2016, but from the academic sessions of 2019 onwards, the original colleges will start functioning again.
The IFBS is solely dedicated to management education. For this, it provides the two- year Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM), which thanks to the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) recognition, stands equivalent to any MBA in the country. The PGDM can only be taken in the field of General Management, as the IFBS strongly believes in developing all- round managerial skills. Under this scheme, students go through all major subject areas, before deciding on there are of choice in the second year during their summer internship. The students enrolled, may opt for specialising from the areas of- Finance, Marketing and in Human Resource Management (HRM). There are further electives to be choose from, under each of these specialization areas.
Admissions to any branch of the PGDM is via any of the nationally or internationally recognized entrance exams such as CAT (Common Admission Test), MAT (Management Aptitude Test), CMAT (Common Management Aptitude Test) or ATMA (AIMS Test for Management Admissions). Post the results of the CAT being declared, shortlisted students need to appear for the PI (Personal Interview)- WAT (Written Ability Test) round. Research has also been a key part of both the colleges individually, as well as the merged entity. The IMM has even started the IEC, which is the IMM Event Consortium. This is to provide knowledge partnership to events and event management firms.
The IMM is also a signatory to the Global Education League (GEL). For this, the IGEL has been established. Students can avail this scheme to pursue higher education in other countries such as France without having to go through the grind of the IELTS (International English Language Testing System). Some niche, tailored programmes are also created for industry partners. Both short- term, as well as long- term courses are available under this for the corporates.
