The college was established in 1664 as a small hospital for the East India Company. The college was earlier affiliated with the University of Madras in 1857. Since 1998 the college has been affiliated with The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University. The college offers various courses in the field of medical and applied sciences. MMC, Chennai UG admissions are offered in MBBS, BSc. Nursing, Post BSc. Nursing, BPT. Whereas PG admissions are offered in MS, MD, PG Diploma and M.Sc. The MMC, Chennai also offers doctoral level courses which include DM and MCh. The duration of the MMC, Chennai UG Courses Range from 2 years to 5 years, for MCC PG courses is 2-3 years. MMC, Chennai doctoral courses duration is 3 years. The admissions are based on qualifying examinations which are NEET-UG, NEET-PG and NEET-SS respectively. As we look at the previous years cut-off it is seen that the opening and closing rank for madras medical college was 255 and 755 respectively for last year for general category. 783-979 for obc and 6533-12242 for the reserved category.
As the competition is increasing every year it is expected that this year also the cut off will hike up. So in order to lock a seat in this governement college you need scare a safe number which may be around 650-670 and above.
