Madras Medical College, Chennai was started in 1664 as a small hospital that was treating the sick soldiers of the East India Company. Sir Edward Winter was instrumental in establishing the British Hospital at Madras. This hospital became Govt. General Hospital in 1664.
In 1842 the Hospital opened its doors to Indians, and in the next two decades, the college was performing with proper teaching staff and a comprehensive curriculum. In the year 1850, the college became Madras Medical College and in 1857 the college became affiliated to University of Madras. Since 1988 the college has been affiliated to The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University. MMC Chennai has nine affiliated institutions with hospitals. It is approved by the Medical Council of India. As we look at the previous years cut-off it is seen that the opening and closing rank for madras medical college was 255 and 755 respectively for last year for general category. 783-979 for obc and 6533-12242 for the reserved category.
As the competition is increasing every year it is expected that this year also the cut off will hike up. So in order to lock a seat in this governement college you need scare a safe number which may be around 650-670 and above.
