Hey aspirant
Yes, there is a significant difference. When compared to a diploma, obtaining an MBA degree provides the individual with a little more value.
The MBA qualifies the individual for a master's degree, whereas the PGDM qualifies the individual for a diploma. But that has nothing to do with students' industrial success or the difference in knowledge imparted in institutes!
All the best
And there isn't much of a difference in terms of getting a job. Securing a placement with a top company in the industry should be a piece of cake if the individual is a graduate of a reputable business school in India.
Hi Karthick,
After B.com both MBA/PGPM or M.com are equally good, it depends on your interest that what you wish to do in future.
If you wish to go for corporate jobs in the areas of marketing, finance, HR, operations etc then you should go for MBA as companies prefer MBA over M.com.
However, if you wish to go in the areas of research, do a Ph.D. or go into lectureship then you can opt for M.com. It doesn't mean that someone with an M.Com can't land up in a corporate job, but they are less preferred over MBA's.
Hope it helps. You can reach out to us for any further assistance.
Good Luck!
Hi Hitesh,
MBA degree is usually offered by universities or the colleges affiliated to universities, while PGPM or PGDM are diploma courses offered by institutes approved by AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education). PGPM/PGDM can either be of one year or two years. One year PGPM/PGDM cannot be equivalent to MBA. However, two-year PGDM or PGPM holds almost equal reputation. Look at IIMs for example. IIMs offer PGDM and that holds a very high importance. Even the curriculum is quite same in MBA and two-year PGDM/PGPM. As far as placements are concerned, there is no difference.
