The Government Engineering College, Idukki has very good placement performance every year. In the academic year 2019-20, a total of 65 students were placed and the median salary was rs.4.2 lakh per annum. For the year 2019, 63 placement offers were received and 50 students were placed.

GEC Idukki placement cell operates around the year to facilitate contacts between companies and graduates.  Faculty and students in the GEC Idukki placement cell work together to provide soft skill training, internships, and final placements. 

Government Engineering College, Idukki offers various full-time courses under the B.Tech specialisation. GEC Idukki courses are offered in various fields under B. Tech like Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Information Technology and Mechanical Engineering.  

Kerala Engineering Architecture Medical entrance examination (KEAM)  is accepted for B.Tech admission at GEC Idukki. KEAM is conducted by the Commissioner of Entrance Examination (CEE). For getting admitted to the B.Tech course at GEC, students must have to qualify for the minimum cut-off in the KEAM entrance exam followed by a counselling session.

Along with this, students are required to pass the 10+2 exam with an aggregate of 45% marks (40% marks for reserved category). Except this, students who have passed a diploma in engineering with an aggregate of 45% marks (40% marks for reserved category) are also eligible to get admission to the same course at GEC. 

For getting admitted to the M.Tech course at GEC, students must have to go through the GATE entrance exam and should get a valid score followed by a counselling session. Along with this students must have a Bachelor's degree with an aggregate of 50% marks (45% marks for reserved category). After the verification of documentation and payment of the course fee, students get admission.

Government Engineering College, Idukki offers good facilities in campus. Which includes a library, computing Lab, hostels for boys and girls, a cafeteria, auditorium, Wi-Fi, IT infrastructure, transport facility, internet facility and laboratories etc.
The library has a good number of books and magazines and it also has IEEE e-journals under Indest Consortium. For fulfilling all the computational requirements of the faculty and the staff the central computing Lab is there.  Well-equipped hostels for girls and boys having all the necessary facilities. Internet accessibility is also provided within the campus. The cooperative society present inside the college campus caters to the day-to-day requirements of the students such as stationery, textbooks etc.
