Sanatan Dharma College was established at Lahore in 1916. The college was re-established at Ambala Cantonment in 1948. Dr Rajinder Prasad, the 1st President of India, laid the foundation stone of the present building in 1951. In 1948 the Defence Ministry of India provided 14 acres of land in Ambala Cantonment for the college building. The institution was inaugurated by the first Speaker of Indian Parliament, Sh G. V. Mavlaonkar.
