The American College was established in 1881 by American Christian missionaries. The college is also known as TAC Madurai. The American College offers various courses in business administration, computer application, commerce, information technology, professional accounting, biochemistry, botany, food science and nutrition, mathematics, microbiology, physics, physical education, psychology, visual communication, zoology, economics, etc at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. TAC Madurai is approved by University Grants Commission (UGC). The American College Madurai is under the jurisdiction of Madurai Kamaraj University.

The American College mission is to improve the quality of education and impart knowledge in every discipline. While the vision of the college is to be a Christian higher educational institution of global standards and reputation.TAC Madurai is located in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. The college is accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The American College offers a total of 70 courses at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. Some of the courses offered by TAC Madurai are BCom, BSc, BA English, BBA, BCA Self Financed, MBA, MCA, MPhil, and various PhD programmes. 

The American College provides all the necessary facilities to its students. TAC Madurai has halls, hostels, laboratories, a canteen, sports, games, a library, and a gym. The nearest railway station to the college is Madurai Junction Railway Station, students can take a bus or auto to reach the college in around 15 mins. Students can reach TAC Madurai in 30 minutes from the Madurai Airport which is 13.1 km away.

The American College Clubs, Committees, and Societies:-

• Green Club- This Club of The American College organises seminars, debates, lectures and popular talks on environmental issues in the college, campaigns against plastic carry bags, using loudspeakers, fireworks, unnecessarily using the horns and promoting recycling of glass and metals, collecting water in the neighbourhood water bodies.

The American College facilities are well-equipped with all the requirements. The American College Madurai facilities include halls, hostels, laboratories, a canteen, sports, games, a library, and a gym. The library of The American College helps students to meet all their information needs. It consists of 60,000 volumes, a reference section, a reading room, a technical section and a computer facility. TAC Madurai library mission is to provide the collections, services and physical environment to satisfy the intellectual curiosity and information requirements of the users. The American College provides hostel facilities to both boys and girls. There are five hostels; Wallace Hall, Zumbro Hall, Washburn Hall, Dudley Hall, and Women’s Hall provided by the college to meet accommodation needs. TAC Madurai canteen offers fresh and quality food to its students at a reasonable price. There are various buildings in The American College Madurai named Main Hall, James Hall, Jivana Jyoti Block, Binghamton Hall, Flint House, Stoffer Hall, Daniel Poor Memorial Humanities Hall, etc. Also, the college hosts many cultural events in the TAC Madurai auditorium that can accommodate a good number of students.

TAC Madurai offers UG, PG, and PhD programmes such as BCom Computer Applications Self Financed, BSc Botany, BA English, BBA Self Financed, MCom Self Financed, MBA, MCA, PhD Botany Self Financed, PhD Chemistry Self Financed, and many more. The minimum eligibility criteria for The American College UG courses is that students must have passed higher secondary (10+2) from a recognized board. Whereas, for The American College PG courses, students must have passed graduation in the relative field with minimum qualifying marks from a recognized university. For PhD students, holding a masters degree is mandatory.

The American College Admission

TAC Madurai offers 70 courses at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. To get admission to different levels at The American College Madurai, students must meet the eligibility criteria decided by the college. For PG courses other than MBA and MCA, students need to appear for the written test conducted by the college. While, for MBA and MCA courses, the college will accept scores of any of the national or state level examinations; CAT/MAT/TANCET.

• TAC Madurai admissions will be given based on merit.

• For TAC Madurai admissions, candidates will be selected after document verification and payment of the fees.

The American College PG Admission Process

• Candidates must meet the eligibility criteria as per the course requirements.

• Eligible students need to appear for an entrance test conducted by the college.

• Candidates should apply, appear and obtain valid scores in CAT/MAT/TANCET for MBA and TANCET for MCA admissions.

• For the MBA course, The American College Madurai admission will be given based on CAT/MAT/TANCET scores. Whereas, for The American College Madurai admission to the MCA course, TANCET scores will be considered.

• The final selection of candidates will be based on marks obtained in the qualifying examination, document verification, and payment of the fees.
