An alumnus of Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, where he received his PhD, Dr. Rajeeva Karandikar's research interests lie in probability theory and stochatic processes, applications of statistics, filtering theory (linear and non-linear), and cryptography. Currently, he is Director at Chennai Mathematical Institute, Chennai. He was awarded the Young Scientist Medal by the Indian National Science Academy in 1985, and was elected a Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences in 1995. He has also served as Executive Vice-President of Cranes Software International Limited and headed the Delhi Centre of Indian Statistical Institute.
