The National Testing Agency (NTA) releases the category-wise NEET cutoff marks along with the result. The minimum mark that a candidate requires to qualify for the medical entrance test is referred to as the NEET cut-off score. For the general category, the NEET cutoff 2023 was 720-137, for SC/ST/OBC category, the scores were 136-107, for the general- PH category it was 136-121 and for the Sc/ST/OBC- PH it was 120-107.

All medical colleges accepting NEET scores will grant admission based on the NEET 2024 admission cutoff. The state-wise NEET 2024 cut-off for government and private colleges will be released by the state competent authority.

Which state has the lowest cut-off in NEET?

The cut-off for the NEET UG exam varies every year depending on various factors. Therefore, the state with the lowest cut-off in NEET may vary each year. However, it is important to note that NEET admission to medical colleges is done based on the All India Rank (AIR) obtained by the candidates, through AIQ or state-wise counselling.

As per the past year's NEET cut-off 2023 for MBBS government college analysis, the Pt. Bhagwat Dayal Sharma Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Rohtak had the lowest cutoff, the NEET closing rank of the past year for this college was 7932.

How many marks are required in NEET for MBBS?

One of the most common questions asked by NEET aspirants is how many marks are required to clear the NEET exam for MBBS. The answer to this question varies every year as the NEET cutoff marks are dependent on various factors such as the difficulty level of the exam, the number of candidates who appeared for the exam, and the availability of seats in various medical colleges.

The NEET exam consists of 200 multiple-choice questions with a total score of 720 marks. The marking scheme is such that for every correct answer, four marks are awarded, and for every incorrect answer, one mark is deducted. Therefore, the NEET 2024 score of a candidate will be calculated based on the number of correct answers minus the number of incorrect answers multiplied by one.

To clear the NEET exam, candidates are required to obtain a minimum NEET qualifying score. The qualifying score for NEET in previous year was 117 out of 720 for unreserved category candidates and 116 for reserved category candidates. This means that candidates belonging to the unreserved category needed to score at least 117 marks to be eligible for admission into medical colleges, whereas candidates belonging to the reserved category needed to score at least 116 marks.

However, candidates must note that merely obtaining the NEET minimum qualifying score does not guarantee admission into medical colleges. The medical admission process through NEET is based on the candidate's NEET score, rank in the NEET exam, and eligibility for admission based on various criteria set by admission authorities.

    NEET counselling 2023

Based on AIR, the authority prepares the NEET merit list, indicating the rank-wise names of candidates who have qualified for the exam. The merit list is then forwarded to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on behalf of MCC for conducting NEET counselling for 15% AIQ, seats in deemed/central universities, ESIC, AFMS, and central pool seats.

The remaining 85% state quota seats in government colleges are allotted by respective state counselling authorities based on the scores and rank secured in NEET examination. The respective state counselling bodies will release NEET state-wise merit list based on the cutoff scores. The state counselling body will also be responsible for granting admission to private medical/dental colleges located in a particular state.
