I appeared for the TCS NQT last September. Preparing for TCS NQT is very important because your performance in this will determine if you have the skills to be a recipient of the TCS Ninja or Digital offer. NOt performing well in this test can lead to you getting dropped from further procedures. I knew this well and started preparing accordingly. I practised questions on Quantitative Aptitude, Logical Reasoning, and also Verbal abilities. The questions that come in the test are generally easy to understand for a person who has had enough practice and therefore, is familiar with the patterns.

The test was online for me. We can choose our preference for the test during registration. If you have a good system and a good internet connection, taking the test remotely will save you time and energy for travelling to the exam centre. But if you don’t have this, it is recommended that you attend the test at any centre of your choice. For attending the test remotely, you are required to download specific software which acts as the platform for the examination (You will be notified via the mail through which you registered). You will also be given certain factors to check if you can attend the exam on your device, like the disk space available on your machine, your internet speed, etc. If you think that the criteria aren’t met or that you are facing some difficulties, reach out to the TCS ninja hiring team and they will help you resolve it or maybe let you change your exam from remote to an exam centre near you.
The exam duration is three hours but you have to appear at least 30 minutes beforehand to complete the pre-exam registration.

The main areas you should focus on for qualifying for the NQT with a notable performance are:
General Aptitude Questions
Logical Reasoning type Questions
Verbal Aptitude
Coding in a language of your preference(This will partly decide if you are eligible for the TCS ninja Digital offer, so make sure you don’t leave it unattended)
Aptitude questions are made to test your logical thinking and problem-solving abilities in a time-bound environment. You can practice these skills on various online platforms like javatpoint or geeksforgeeks.
Coding can be practised on online coding websites like HackerRank, HackerEarth, leetcode, etc.
The questions in the NQT TCS ninja hiring were really beginner friendly and I could solve most of the questions with ease.
If you perform well in the test, you will get an email regarding the further procedures. This mainly involves the technical interview if you have been shortlisted for TCS Ninja, and the Advanced coding round if you are shortlisted for TCS digital.

The interview was an awesome experience. It was conducted online via Teams. The interviewers were quite friendly to me. I love how they approached freshers. The questions asked include basic OOP, networking, and basic programming.
Some questions asked were:
Advantages of your favourite programming language(python in my case).
Network layers in the OSI reference model (explain with an example).
Operating system questions like what are the basic states of a process in a system
Coding questions like how to implement basic stack operations on an array.
HR questions like “where do you see yourself in 5 years” were used in between questions to relax the candidate and to get to know the candidate more.
Preparing for general questions and possible questions that could follow your answer to those questions can be helpful to predict what questions to expect. For example, I planned for the interview in a way that if asked for my favourite programming language, I would say Python and then a possible next question would be why python is my favourite. Since this is before the interview, you have time to prepare a few points on the advantages of Python. The next question they asked was how a class is defined in Python. Because I was comfortable with programming in Python I was able to explain that in a good way.
Another way to impress your interviewers with your skills is when they ask you to code something. If the problem asked is familiar to you, or if you know how to approach the problem, a good way to impress your interviewer would be to explain the underlying concepts of the solution while you code it. Say you are asked about implementing a stack as an array. While coding you can mention things like the stack is a LIFO data structure and that is why I’m doing these two functions to push and pop the elements.
Another deciding factor that shows your good skill is your academic knowledge. Even though it is not possible to go through all the subjects you’ve studied all throughout, it is possible to pick out some of the relevant topics that are useful in the field. This includes Data Structures and Algorithms, Basic Operating System concepts, Computer Network basics, Databases, and Object Oriented Programming.
After clearing your technical interview, you will be called for an HR interview. There’s nothing to worry about here, the HR just wants to confirm a few things with you like if you are comfortable working shifts, or if you are comfortable relocating. Just respond positively to the questions and you’re all set to receive your offer.

Last but not least, remember to not stress yourself and your brain too much. Believe in yourself and be confident that your recruiter sees that in you. Then all you have to do is, wait for your moment of happiness in your email as a PDF file.
