IIMs That Can Be Considered For A Career In BFSI

IIM aspirants (including freshers and work experience) who want to work in the BFSI sector can look at IIM Kashipur, IIM Udaipur, IIM Visakhapatnam, IIM Bodh Gaya and IIM Shillong as possible options to pursue their professional dreams.

The top and oldest IIMs, like IIM Bangalore, Indore and Kozhikode dipped in percentage of students placed in the BFSI sector in 2022 compared to 2021. While IIM Visakhapatnam and IIM Bodh Gaya, the third generation IIMs, almost tripled the percentage of students selected in the BFSI sector during placements in the same period.

Careers360 collected data of the job offers made into the BFSI sector during the IIM campus placement for the year 2021 and 2022. Data for 2021 for IIM Ahmedabad, Calcutta and Lucknow was not available; IIM Shillong and IIM Ranchi too did not share the relevant data. These campuses were hence left out of our analysis. Making the analysis of 15 IIMs for 2021 and 17 IIMs for the year 2022.

Top Five IIMs: Placements In BFSI Sector

IIM Kashipur and IIM Udaipur were among top five colleges with maximum BFSI placements compared for both the years. In 2022, IIM Visakhapatnam and IIM Bodh Gaya tripled the percentage of students placed in this sector and are now among the IIMs with most students being offered placements in the BFSI sector.

First Generation IIMs

Among the six first-generation IIMs, IIM Bangalore, IIM Indore and IIM Kozhikode published the sector wise student placement data on their websites. All the three IIMs reported a decrease in the percentage of students placed in the BFSI sector in 2022.

Second Generation IIMs

In the group of second generation IIMs, IIM Kashipur,IIM Udaipur and IIM Shillong stood out as IIMs with most students who were hired in the BFSI sector.

However, in a year-on-year comparison of 2021 and 2022, IIM Kashipur and IIM Rohtak showed an increase in the percentage of students placed in the BFSI.

Third Generation IIMs

The third generation or the newest IIMs were established after 2015. Despite the fact that they were established just a few years ago, all the IIMs recorded good placements in the BFSI sector except IIM Nagpur.

Students planning their future in the BFSI sector can aim for IIM Bodh Gaya, IIM Visakhapatnam, IIM Udaipur or IIM Shillong. As these colleges get most of its students placed in the BFSI sector.
