Qualifying JEE Main is your first step to gaining admission in prestigious engineering institutes like the IITs, NITs and IIITs, but hard work alone doesn’t guarantee success. You need a smart strategy to ace JEE Main and Physics plays a vital role in your success. In the JEE Main 2021, at least 33.33% of questions were from Physics and did you know that cent percent of the questions in Physics were from just 40 percent of its syllabus? So, what are the chapters that have more weightage in terms of questions asked in JEE Main 2021? Read on to find out the chapters and topics that are more important than others so that you can put in a smart preparation strategy and score well, get a good rank in JEE Main and gain admission in the engineering college and  branch of your choice.

As we all know, JEE Main is the most coveted of all national level examinations for engineering aspirants. So, to qualify for JEE Main we need to make a smart strategy and work hard accordingly. In 2021, more than 10.48 lakh candidates registered for JEE Main and about 9.39 lakh appeared for the exam, but only 5.5% of them got selected in top engineering colleges. These candidates were successful not just because they worked hard but they also had a smart strategy to prepare for JEE Main. The question is, what was that smart strategy?

So, the next step in preparing for JEE Main 2022 would be to develop a smart strategy that factors in exam pattern, syllabus, mock tests, practice etc. One of the key areas of smart strategy is to analyse the previous years’ question papers.

JEE has a vast syllabus and you have to learn quite a lot of concepts. So, your strategy must be planned in such a way that it saves time and also helps in using those concepts in chapters you study on the basis of priority. Therefore, analysing previous years’ question papers becomes very important. Knowing how much weight certain topics or sections of a subject are given in the exam will help students focus on the most important aspects of these topics.

Careers360’s analysis of JEE Main 2021shows that 100% of the questions in Physics are from 40% of the syllabus. So, prepare smartly by analysing the most asked concepts of JEE Main from the 40% of the syllabus which has maximum weightage. This will help you to solve the maximum number of questions in the exam and score well.

JEE Main 2021 was held in four sessions and in 26 shifts. A total of 780 questions from the 26 shifts of Physics section were analysed. This article analyses the weightage of each chapter and ten most asked concepts in JEE Main from Physics. A list of the Physics chapters with more weightage in JEE Main 2021 is given below.

From the table above, you can see that chapters like Oscillations And Waves; Current Electricity; Electromagnetic Induction And Alternating Currents; and Electrostatics are so important that they cover more than 27% of questions asked in Physics section of JEE Main 2021. Also, the students can organise their preparation strategy according to the weightage mentioned in the table above. Now, a smart student will invest more time to get in-depth knowledge of Oscillation and Waves by solving more numerical questions rather than investing more time on Experimental Skills.

Now let’s see a list of top 10 concepts of Physics according to the number of questions asked in JEE Main 2021. The list and the brief details given after it can help you analyse how to approach a concept which is important and was most asked in 2021.

De-broglie Wavelength of an electron is one of the most important concepts of the chapter - “Dual Nature Of Matter And Radiation”. Modern Physics is one of the easiest sections of Physics and the questions asked from this concept are also easy and straightforward. In this concept students understand the wave-particle duality of the matter and they have a wavelength given as - λ = h / p, where p = linear momentum, h = planck's constant and λ = wavelength of matter. After learning this concept, students will get to know how easily they can answer questions.

Amplitude Modulation - This concept belongs to the chapter - Communication System. It is also a part of Modern Physics, so the questions about this concept are generally easy and formula based. In this concept the student learns about Expression For Amplitude; Modulated Wave; Bandwidth and Modulation Index. And this part covered the maximum number of questions asked in JEE till date.

Logic Gates concept belongs to the chapter Electronic Devices. It is also a part of the Modern Physics section. In this concept, students learn about the various categories of Gates like OR, AND, NOR, NOT, NAND, XOR etc. They also learn about the Boolean algebra in brief to find the outcomes of signals given to Gates. Students should note that this is a very important concept from Electronic Devices and at least one question was asked in JEE Main 2021 from this concept in each shift.

Equations Of Motions Of The SHM concept belongs to the chapter Oscillation and Waves. This concept is a part of the Mechanics section. In this concept, students learn about the general equation of SHM for displacement, velocity and acceleration. Also, students will learn about the differential equation of SHM and graphs related to the equation of motion of SHM from which 11 questions were asked in JEE Main 2021.

Vector Addition And Vector Subtraction - This concept belongs to the basics of Mathematics related to the Physics section. This is one of the basic concepts of Physics and will remain with the students throughout their Physics journey. In this concept students will learn about the Vector Law of Addition and Subtraction via Triangle Law and Parallelogram Law. This will help the students to solve many problems in all the chapters of Physics.

Dielectrics - Before jumping on to this concept directly, students should gain knowledge about Capacitors. Capacitors is a part of the Electrostatics section of Physics. In this the students will study about one or more than one dielectric insertion in the capacitors, specially in parallel plate capacitors. Also, about their parallel and series arrangement.

Series LCR Circuit - Study of LCR circuit needs some knowledge about LC and LR circuit. This concept is the part of the chapter, Electromagnetic Induction And Alternating Currents. The students will learn about different graphs and phasor diagrams in this concept. Also, the relationship between Voltage and Current in LCR circuits.

Nature of Electromagnetic Waves - This concept belongs to the chapter, Electromagnetic Waves. This is a theoretical concept and at least one question will be there in each shift of JEE Main. Students should see to it that they make short notes of the nature of Electromagnetic Waves.

Energy Density and Intensity of EM waves - This concept also belongs to the chapter, Electromagnetic Waves. So, you can see how important this chapter is. Since this chapter is very short and can be easily completed, students can get more marks in less time by thoroughly studying this chapter.

Einstein’s Photoelectric equation - This concept also belongs to the chapter Dual Nature of Matter and Radiation. Now we have already seen that one concept named as De-broglie Wavelength belongs to the same chapter. This equation is given as - K.E. = hν – Φ , where K.E. is the Kinetic energy of electrons, h = Planck’s constant, v = frequency of photon and Φ = work function. Generally questions belonging to this concept are formula based. So students should prepare this in a very good manner.

For more information and studying those important concepts, students can visit JEE Main Exam's High Scoring Chapters and Topics and can download the E-Book for their reference.

This article highlights the importance of analysis and how students can analyse chapters and concepts of Physics. Based on this the students can do their own analysis of the question paper and work hard towards their desired results. So, take smart decisions and make smart strategies, and shape your preparation in line with the best path. Score well and come out with the flying colours in JEE Main. Best of luck!
