    The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main is the main national-level entrance test for admission to BTech or BE programmes in Engineering. However, many states hold their own entrance exams, or “common entrance tests” for admission to the state colleges. Of these, Telangana’s TS EAMCET is one of the largest. Because students can write both exams in a year, they are often faced with the dilemma of which to focus on more.     NTA JEE Main: An Introduction

    The JEE Main is the first of the two-stage IIT-JEE, national-level entrance tests for admission to the country’s top engineering colleges. JEE Main itself serves as a gateway exam for premier institutions such as the National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and Government-Funded Technical Institutions (GFTIs). The JEE Main test is taken by students who desire to study engineering, architecture, design, or fundamental sciences. Undergraduate (BTech) and combined postgraduate (BTech-MTech) programmes are available to students.

    The JEE Main also serves as a screening round for the JEE Advanced through which Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) admit students to their undergraduate and integrated postgraduate programmes.

    The National Testing Agency (NTA), under the Ministry of Education, conducts JEE Main every year. The JEE Advanced is conducted by the IITs on rotation basis; IIT Bombay will organise JEE Advanced 2022.

    TS EAMCET: An Introduction

    There are around 228 colleges which admit through the Telangana State Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test , or TS EAMCET. The top 10 colleges admitting via this exam are:

    The TS EAMCET is for admission to BTech in all branches of Engineering and also for BSc in Agriculture, B.Pharm, BVSc and BFSc etc. However, this article focuses only on Engineering.

    JEE Mains, TS EAMCET Exam Patterns

    The JEE Main used to have 90 multiple choice questions (MCQs), all compulsory. However, recently the JEE Main exam pattern has been altered, and numerical answer questions have been added to the exam. These are questions to which the paper does not offer multiple options and instead, the candidate has to enter the numerical value of the answer in the input field using an on-screen keyboard.

    Now, the JEE Main consists of 90 questions of which candidates are required to answer 75 within three hours and they carry a maximum score of 300 points. The JEE Main question paper is divided into three sections:

    • Physics

    • Chemistry

    • Mathematics

    Each subject in JEE Main has two parts. Section 1 comprises 20 MCQs, all of which must be answered; Section 2 contains 10 Numerical Response Questions (NRQs), of which only five must be answered.

    The TS EAMCET Engineering exam is a three hour-long examination containing a total of 160 questions. There are three sections in this paper as well:

    • Physics

    • Chemistry

    • Mathematics

    A student appearing for the examination has to attempt all sections. There are 40 questions each in the Physics and Chemistry sections and 80 in Maths. All of them are MCQs and every correct answer fetches one mark. There is no “negative marking” policy in the TS EAMCET – no marks are deducted from the total in case of a wrong answer.

    JEE Main, TS EAMCET: Differences And Similarities

    Both exams are now computer-based. The TS EAMCET is held once a year and is conducted by the . Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (JNTUH). The NTA JEE Main was held twice in 2019 and 2020 and four times in 2021. For candidates who write it more than once, the best score is considered for the final JEE Main result and rank lists.

    The JEE exam is for admission to institutions across India; the TS EAMCET is relevant only for Telangana colleges. While the number of colleges and their geographical spread are limited in the case of TS EAMCET, it holds significance because admission to some of the best colleges in the country is through it. The JEE Mains, on the other hand, is for admission to colleges across the country.

    The number of candidates for the JEE Main is significantly larger than the number writing the TS EAMCET. Over 10.48 lakh students enrolled for the four JEE Main sessions in 2021, with roughly 9.39 lakh applicants ultimately appearing. JEE Main or JEE Advanced has filled 45,000 seats – 16,053 seats at IITs and 31,652 seats in NITs, GFTIs, IIITs, and other institutions. In 2020, about 1.5 lakh wrote the TS EAMCET.

    While all three subjects in the JEE Main syllabus have equal weightage in the exam, in TS EAMCET, Maths has far more weightage than Physics and Chemistry.

    A student can write JEE Main for three consecutive years starting from attempting in Class 12. With the TS EAMCET, there is no limit on the number of attempts as long as the candidate is below the age of 25.

    After the TS EAMCET result is declared, a rank card is issued providing extensive information about a candidate's exam performance, including marks earned, rank, qualifying status, and other pertinent information. In the case of JEE Main, applicants are given scorecards that show the percentiles in each component as well as the total percentile.

    Syllabus Compared

    The syllabus for Physics is quite the same for TS EAMCET and JEE Main, except the part on “Experimental Lab Skills” which is not a part of the TS EAMCET. But questions asked in TS EAMCET are more formula-based and easier than JEE Main

    Weightage Compared

    Heat and Thermodynamics are most common in TS EAMCET. After Heat, a large number of questions are from Mechanics, including Rotation, Work and Energy and Newton's Laws of Motion. Mechanics comprises almost 40% of the Physics section of TS EAMCET and it is important to work on these topics.

    TS EAMCET, JEE Main Question Paper: Chemistry

    Syllabus Compared

    The Chemistry syllabus for both exams includes all topics in the Class 11 and Class 12 Chemistry textbooks designed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). Here, too, the one exception is the “Experimental Lab Skills” which is not a part of the TS EAMCET syllabus. Chemistry is especially important for the Telangana test because it has many questions but the test duration is the same as JEE.

    Weightage Compared

    Chemical Bonding And Molecular Structure is most important as it is the foundation of Chemistry, both Organic and Inorganic. Most of the questions are asked from Classification of Elements and Periodicity in Properties, Coordination Compounds, Equilibrium, Alcohols, Phenols and Ethers, Structure of Atoms, Chemical Bonding and Molecular Structure, States of Matter and Hydrocarbons.

    TS EAMCET, JEE Main Question Paper: Mathematics

    Syllabus Compared

    For the TS EAMCET Engineering Exam, Mathematics is the most important subject as it has the maximum number of questions. 50% of the exam is just Maths questions. The level of difficulty does not match that of the JEE Main but the questions are not easy either.

    Is TS EAMCET Aptitude Test Easier Than JEE Main?

    Overall, the TS EAMCET is considered easier than the JEE Main even though it has more than double the questions JEE Main contains. The syllabuses for TS EAMCET and JEE Main are nearly the same and close to what is taught in Classes 11 and 12.

    The main variation between the two tests is the question paper structure of the TS EAMCET exam. Questions from several reference books should be practised. Practising JEE Main previous year question papers and mock test questions and the same for TS EAMCET will help a student get comfortable with different sorts of questions, grading schemes, and important subjects.

    BTech Entrance Exams: How to prepare

    The TS EAMCET has a higher number of questions to be completed in the same amount of time as JEE Main, making it more of a speed test. Because the exam patterns are different, it is necessary to practise previous-years’ question papers and sample test papers for both. Given below are a few pointers:

    • Create a study schedule and stick to it

    • To begin with, work on fully grasping the concepts covered in the NCERT textbooks, and then utilise good reference books to gain deeper understanding

    • Make your own notes or study materials.

    • Self-study on a regular basis.

    • Use flowcharts and diagrams

    • Examine past years’ question papers and practise tests.

    • Make a plan for how you will approach the question paper in order to optimise your score
