Computer Science Engineering students at National Institute of Technology (NIT) Calicut, Kerala, posted the best placement record of all branches of engineering on offer in the 2020-21 academic year. All 100 percent of students who registered for the campus job drive were placed. BTech in CSE students also received the highest salary packages, pulling their batch’s average salary ahead of everyone else’s.
NIT Calicut is the first among all NITs to have ranked in the ministry of education’s Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) in 2021. NIT Calicut is also among the top five NITs of India. In the Engineering category of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), it ranked at number 25 in 2021.
Based on data obtained through a Right to Information application, Careers360 analysed the placement performance of each branch of Engineering at NIT Calicut.
NIT Calicut’s placement rate was touching 90 percent when it saw a sharp drop of eight percentage points in 2019-20 – likely an impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, it recovered the very next year, rising to well over 80 percent.
The number of enrolled students has increased over the years and so has the number of students placed.

Engineering Jobs: Branch-Wise Placement
In 2020-21, an average of 87.3 percent of students got jobs, that is, 515 students out of the 590 who registered for placement.
Computer Science Engineering (CSE), Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) and Electrical and Electronics Engineering (ECE) were the three branches to individually record placement rates over 90 percent at NIT Calicut.

Based on data shared for each branch of Engineering, NIT Calicut averaged a maximum salary of Rs 21.72, average salary of Rs.8.51 and minimum salary of Rs.3.86 lakh per annum.
Computer Science Engineering was the only department to record 100 percent placement; it also saw the best average salary offered to students.

The overall campus placement percentage was lower in 2020-21 than 2018-19 but the number of recruiters to participate had increased.
The number of visiting companies did not drop due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as it rose in 2019-20 and again in 2020-21.
