In terms of placement rates, NIT Warangal with 79.4 percent, did better than IIT Hyderabad, which had 65.8 percent placement. The best placement record for 2019-20, however, was by IIIT Hyderabad with 93 percent placement.
For the top 10 institutions, the average placement rate of 65 percent was significantly higher than neighbouring Andhra Pradesh’s record of 52 percent but slightly less than that of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka – 66 percent for both. These averages are based on the total number of students graduating and not the total enrollment.
As per data submitted to the NIRF, the top 10 Telangana colleges had 8.5% more enrollment than intake. This could be due to “lateral entry” into the programme after the first year.
That the latest placement data publicly available is from 2019-20, the year the COVID-19 pandemic began its sweep through India, could be one explanation for the depressed placement rates of engineering colleges. Given below are the absolute numbers on intake, enrollment, graduation and placement.
