There is no doubt that the IIMs are a brand name that everyone who dreams of a degree in management wants to boast on their resume. But not every aspirant can secure a seat at the IIM of their choice. Let us assure you there are options other than IIMs that offer a similar experience as any of the top IIMs. They have similar placement records, but the salary packages that are offered to students vary with respect to the college rank.
There were only 13 IIMs before 2015 in India, after which seven new IIMs were established across India, making the total to 20 IIMs. All the IIMs provide a two year full-time MBA (Master of Business Administration) and other diploma programmes in management.
Also, there are some Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) that offer a degree and diplomas in management. Most management candidates aspire to secure a seat at these top B-schools that are run by the Ministry of Education of the government of India.
Careers360 in this analysis has left out the IIMs and IITs and has analysed the salary and placement data of management institutes that rank among the top 30 according to the NIRF.
For the benefit of our readers, and better comparison, we have listed the top IIMs and seven new IIMs in our analysis.
Below mentioned institutes are the top 10 management institutes other than IIMs and IITs across India as per the National Institutes Ranking Framework(NIRF) 2022. All these institutes are among the top 30 management institutes.
With the exception of Amity University, Noida all these institutes had amazing placement performance over the last three years. Only two per cent of the total students of Amity University went for further studies, while about one-third were not placed. Still, the institute managed to get a rank 28 in NIRF 2022 .

Except for Amity University, all other institutes from the list have shown a steady increase in the salary packages since 2020.
SP Jain Institute of Management and Research managed to get the best median salary among all the institutes in the same duration of three years.

Among the non-IIM institutes, only Amity University, Noida had a very poor placement percentage. Rest of the non-IIM institutes had a placement just like the IIMs.
Almost all the top management institutes (IIMs or Non-IIMs) showed close to 100 per cent placement in NIRF 2022, along with the newest IIMs. The new IIMs, established in and after 2015, hold the NIRF rank between 36 to 66 but they too show a placement percentage of almost 100 per cent, with only one student from IIM Visakhapatnam opting for higher education.

The salary packages offered to students of half of these top non-IIM colleges are comparable to the top IIMs. But as the college rank increases, the median salary of the college is showing a downward trend. But even with a lower rank, the new IIMs show better median salary than few of the non-IIM colleges.
But in most cases, these non-IIM colleges performed better than the new IIMs in terms of the median salary.
