    Synopsis

Analysis of question papers is a critical part of strategising for any exam and it will be so for TS EAMCET 2022 as well. The Telangana entrance test for Engineering covers three subjects, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Careers360 analysed 800 questions asked over the last five years to understand the difficulty-level and weightage assigned to each subject and also each topic in the TS EAMCET syllabus.

Solving and analyzing previous years’ papers is a very important part of preparation for any entrance exam. It can give candidates insights into which parts of their school syllabus are most important from the exam’s point of view; it helps examinees manage time and build speed. Careers360’s detailed analysis of the previous five years' question papers of Telangana State Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test (TS EAMCET) will help candidates strategise more efficiently.

The state-level entrance exam is conducted once a year by Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) Hyderabad for admissions to the Engineering, Agriculture, Pharmacy, and Veterinary courses. However, the present article focuses on Engineering only.

The analysis yielded crucial insights into the unit-wise weightage of the syllabus and important chapters. These insights give an idea about the trend of the TS -EAMCET exam and will help students formulate their preparation strategy.

A total of 800 questions were analysed from the past five years, including 200 questions each of Physics and Chemistry and 400 questions of Maths. From this, we can clearly see that Mathematics is the most important of all the three subjects. So, if a student wants to give extra attention to any one subject, it should be Mathematics.

    TS EAMCET Syllabus: Physics

The table below shows the weightage of each unit of Physics in the TS EAMCET. It is evident that Mechanics is the most important. Mechanics, part of Class 11 Physics, starts with one-dimensional motion, two dimensional motion, and then we study Newton’s laws of motion followed by the most important parts – rotational motion and work power and energy. After Mechanics, the second most important is Electricity which includes Electric Charges and Field, Capacitors, Magnetism, and Alternating Current.

The table below shows the number of questions that appeared from each section in the last five years and also the weightage assigned to each. From this, it is possible to gauge which chapters are most important for the exam.

For Class 12 out of 15 chapters, most questions were from Current Electricity and Moving Charges and Magnetism, covering 6% of all questions in Physics. However, before attempting Systems of Particles and Rotational Motion, one requires a full grasp of Mechanics.

For candidates trying to decide which chapter to devote extra time to during revision, Thermodynamics and kinetic theory of gases may be a better choice. It carries a weightage of 6.5% – comparable to Systems of Particles and Rotational Motion – but contains fresh concepts that are not related to other chapters and can be studied on their own. Plus, it also helps with understanding Thermodynamics of Chemistry.

For Class 12 Physics, chapters Electric Charges and Fields, Electrostatic Potential and Capacitance, Current Electricity, Moving charges and Magnetism, Magnetism And Matter, and Alternating Current. Together they make 20% of the entire Physics section. The first is a prerequisite for the other chapters, studying them in the same order will be beneficial.

    TS EAMCET Syllabus: Chemistry

The table below shows the weightage assigned to each of the three sections of Chemistry – Physical, Organic and Inorganic Chemistry. Every part is important but a close look at the trend over the past five years shows that Physical Chemistry and Inorganic Chemistry carry more weight than Organic Chemistry. Although it has more chapters, a candidate who prefers understanding and mathematics should focus on Physical Chemistry. Inorganic Chemistry requires more learning and memorising and it takes very little time to answer the questions.

The table below shows the number of questions that appeared from each chapter over the past five TS EAMCET exams.

In Physical Chemistry, Thermodynamics and Structure of Atoms are the most scoring. Organic Chemistry as a whole is scoring and it only has five chapters of which Haloalkane and Alcohol is the most important and reactions related to that are asked very often in TS- EAMCET.

Inorganic Chemistry has lots of chapters and requires much time to study but in exams, questions from it take barely any time to answer; in Inorganic Chemistry, Chemical Bonding and Molecular Structure and Block Chemistry is very scoring and s,p,d,f blocks have the same structure, making it easy to learn. There are some chapters like Chemistry in Everyday Life and Environmental Chemistry which only require one-time reading. They take very little time to study but are very scoring.

    Preparations Tips For TS EAMCET

The TS EAMCET question paper typically has a large number of questions to be solved within three hours. A candidate must cover as much of the syllabus as possible and solve previous years’ question papers to become comfortable with the pattern of the exam

    Tips for Physics

    • In Physics, Mechanics and Electromagnetism are the most important and connected to each other. It is a good idea to study both together as each part is very scoring. In all, they make 67.5% of the Physics questions

    • Most of the Physics questions are conceptual and so, students should work on grasping the concepts and practice questions based on them.

    • The NCERT Physics exemplar contains lots of interesting questions that should be practiced along with the previous years’ questions. The NCERT are textbooks designed by the government advisory body, National Council for Educational Research and Training.

    Tips specific to Chemistry

    • Chemistry, especially Inorganic Chemistry, is all about grasping concepts. Most of the questions in TS EAMCET are directly from the NCERT textbooks.

    • Organic chemistry is all interconnected and should be studied in a continuous order and students should focus only on those reactions which are in the syllabus.

    • Physical chemistry requires practice of previous years’ questions as similar types of questions appear in TS-EAMCET.

    Tips specific to Mathematics

    • Analysis of older question papers shows that questions are often repeated with just the values changed. Candidates should solve older papers more than once.

    • Questions on Probability, Permutation and Combination tend to be directly from the NCERT textbook. The book should be studied thoroughly at least once.

    • Mathematics requires practice – refer to other books for practice but only after completing NCERT and previous years’ questions.
