A total of 14,89,115 schools exist across India, out of which 6.5 per cent of schools are in the north-east. Around 92 per cent of the north-east schools are well equipped with toilet facilities which is highest among other facilities such as reading corner or library, drinking water and computer labs.
Eight north-east Indian states: Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura have done a good job in terms of the facilities offered at schools such as toilets, drinking water, library and computer facilities. While Meghalaya schools were nowhere near the other states.
Careers360 gathered data of the north-east Indian schools with the help of the official site of Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) for 2021-22. This article will provide a comprehensive analysis of the better understanding about the basic facilities available at schools, to the students and parents of north-east states.
Toilet Facilities: More than 92 per cent north-east Indian schools are well equipped with the separate latrine facilities for girls and boys. Out of them, around 91.5 per cent of the school's toilets are in working condition.
Library: More than 71 per cent schools of north-east India have either a library, a book bank or at least a reading corner.
Drinking water: Out of the 96,496 schools in north-east India, more than 86 per cent have drinking water facilities. But out of the schools with drinking water facilities, about 95.5 per cent of them are in functional condition.
Computer Labs: In the north-east, 22.7 per cent of schools have computer labs, which is far better than the ones in north and south India state schools. Out of them more than 91 per cent are fully functional.

Although Sikkim is a very small state, all its schools have lavatories with almost 100 per cent of them in functional condition. While Meghalaya, Assam and Nagaland are the states with the lowest percent of toilet facility among all the states of India.

Overall north-east India’s schools have around 71 per cent library facilities.
Among all the states of India, Meghalaya, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura has the lowest percent of libararies in its schools.

Out of the eight north-east states, six of them had the lowest percentage of schools with drinking water facilities among all the states and union territories of India.

Overall 47.5 percent of schools in India have computer lab facilities while north-east India schools have only 22.7per percent computer labs.
There are states like Sikkim who have almost 90 per cent schools with computer labs. While states like Assam and Meghalaya decreased the average percentage of computer labs of north-east Indian schools.

Among all the facilities mentioned above, toilets are one of the highest available facilities in schools of most states, while computer lab facilities are the least.
Meghalaya is the only state in this region that performed poorly in providing any basic facility to its students.
