Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu together have a total of 1,65,426 schools. This comes to about 11 per cent of the total schools across the country.
Data of all the Indian schools including government schools, government aided, private aided and others from class 1 to 12 are maintained by the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+). The data obtained from their official website includes basic facilities such as toilets, drinking water, computer labs and a reading corner or library
Careers360 collated data from the official website of UDISE + for the year 2021-22 for its analysis. In this article, we focus on basic facilities available at the schools in the western states of India.
Toilet Facilities: Around 99.3 per cent of the total schools of all the states in the west zone have basic facilities of toilets. Out of them more than 98 per cent schools toilets are in proper functional condition.
Library: To make the students more knowledgeable, more than 97 per cent of the schools in western zone have either a library, a book bank or at least a reading corner.
Drinking Water: Around 1,65,426 schools exist in the western part of India, out of them on an average 99.6 per cent of schools have drinking water facilities, with most of them in proper working condition.
Computer Labs: Compared to all the zones of India, western zone has the highest per cent of computers labs available at their schools. More than 86 per cent of the schools have computer labs, out of them more than 97 per cent are in working condition.

Toilet facility is the most needed and basic facility in any school. And almost all schools in the west zone had this facility, 97 per cent of them were in working condition.

Almost all the students of Goa take the advantage of a library to gain more knowledge. Overall the percentage of schools with a library in the west zone of India is above 98 per cent.

Here too, almost all schools had proper functional drinking water facilities.
However, around 600 schools in the west zone do not have a drinking water facility and over 1600 schools drinking water facilities need to be improved or replaced.

Maharashtra has the third highest number of schools among all the states and union territories of India. It also ranks at the top in establishing computer labs in most of the schools in the state.

Although computer labs remained the lowest among all the facilities among all the western states, but western states have the highest per cent of computer labs compared to all the zones of India.
