It depends on which type of college you want to join. If it comes to Govt. Btech colleges like IITs, NITs, JNTUs, etc then you definitely need to write an entrance exam because they intake students based on the performance in the entrance exam (It may be JEE-Mains or any other regional engineering entrance exam like KCET, EAMCET, etc). But, if you want to join a private college, you have two option, one to take the entrance exam other is to join through management quota.

So, whatever it is, it is necessary to take entrance exams for Btech admission.
